@notsosourdough @CR1337 Tribler has its own network that is independend from tor but works quite similiar. So there will be no interference.

The future lies in the darknet, as the clearnet is already being fully monitored.
It has a reason that the darknet is always described as dystopian criminal hell hole by the mass media; and while this part obviously exists, there are lots of useful resources and legit use cases.
If you are new to Tor & the darknet, here a quick list with things to keep in mind:
1. Download Tor Browser ONLY from torproject[.]org + verify signature
2. Never log into Gmail/Facebook/Discord/etc. while on Tor
3. Don’t resize or maximize the window (fingerprinting)
4. No extensions, no plugins, ever
5. Keep JavaScript on “Safer” unless the site is ultra-sketchy, then “Safest”
6. Use Tails OS or Whonix VM if you’re doing anything 'serious'
7. Never download & open files outside Tor Browser
8. Treat every .onion link like it wants to steal your soul (use Dark[.]fail, tor[.]taxi, or Ahmia, a .onion search engine)
9. No real names, photos, or info; ever!
10. Monero > Bitcoin. New address every time.
11. New Identity button is your friend after every sensitive action
12. If it asks for phone verification, it’s a scam or the cops.
Happy browsing - and stay safe!
P.S.: No, TOR is not (!) 100% anonymous, nothing ever really is, but it is the best option we have.

Miller's take that "Superintelligence" won't cure cancer and death is going to age really badly.
Firstly, it's wrong by definition. "Superintelligence" means an AI that that greatly exceeds the cognitive performance of humans in all domains. That is literally the definition of "Superintelligence".
So it must greatly exceed humans at curing cancer specifically. Presumably Miller thinks that humans are capable of curing cancer in principle (otherwise, why do we devote human researchers to this task?), therefore by definition any "Superintelligence" must be able to cure cancer.
Secondly, Miller starts bounding the capabilities of "Superintelligence" by comparing it to contemporary LLM-based systems. There are two ways this could go wrong: - either LLM-based-systems are not capable of curing cancer, in which case they will never achieve "Superintelligence". Or, sufficient improvements may yield LLM-based systems that do actually cure cancer in which case they might make it to "Superintelligence" (or might not, if they are bad at some other task).
I think people like Geoffrey Miller should just stop talking about "Superintelligence" if they are going to abuse the term like this.
But set aside the definitional games: maybe AI systems that we can actually build will be bad at biomedical science? This is certainly the case today. Modern LLM-based systems are good at coding and at commonsense and generic research tasks, but not that good at anything else. LLMs work well when they get fast feedback. But, so do humans. Anyone sufficiently intelligent can get good at math and coding. Getting good at biology requires a lot of equipment. We haven't really connected modern AIs to automated labs yet. When we do, I do expect significant progress just as we saw progress when we connected AI to the internet.
In a way, LLMs are just the result of connecting the preexisting AI stuff to large scale data. We already had neural language models in 2015. I used to work on language models, just before LLMs took off. Small language models are not impressive or that useful. So I have seen a full cycle of this playing out over a decade.

At midnight, the regime raided 18‑year‑old Melika Azizi’s home and dragged her to Lakan Prison in Rasht. She’s been beaten, cut off from her family, and sentenced to death. In court she looked the judge in the eye and shouted: “You’ve spilled the blood of so many young people, how can I stay silent? It doesn’t matter to me, kill me too.” This is a teenager whose “crime” was courage. We can’t let them execute her in silence. #MelikaAzizi #StopExecutionsInIran

The Qataris have spent decades pushing and promoting Islamism:
- they funded and distributed Islamist propaganda via Al Jazeera
- infiltrated US higher education and helped normalise anti-Israel hatred
- bought and paid journalists to spread their messages in the West
- corrupted politicians, most famously in the Qatargate scandal
- harboured terrorist groups in Doha for decades
- funded terror groups around the world
- served as a de facto “Bank of Terror”
Now they are being bombed and punished by the Islamist Regime in Tehran.

An ongoing blockade HURTS EUROPE MORE BECAUSE WE ARE ENERGY DEPENDENT. If Trump announces an export stop for US energy, the lights will go out all over Europe. So unless you can fertilize your fields and run a car on snarky tweets, this is not helpful.

@GuntherSchnabl Hoffentlich bald. Bei dem Clusterfuck im nahen Osten werden wir es uns nicht leisten können Energiepreise noch künstlich zu erhöhen !
Je schneller das weg kommt desto besser für Europa.

@davidpattersonx Introduction of agriculture was the reason for slavery. Because those in power did not want to do the terrible farming work by themselfs. So they forced others to do it for them.
Technology therefore is liberating people from that kind of work conditions.
English

For millions of years, humans lived in tribes where it was mandatory to share everything and treat everyone equally.
We evolved an instinct for equality to overcome the alpha male dominance that oppressed our ape ancestors.
Only with the introduction of agriculture about 10,000 years ago did hoarding and selfishness become acceptable again.
But this was only a temporary shift. We still have the instinct for equality.
Now, superabundance created by AI will eliminate inequality.
And we will return to a life of sharing and caring, better suited to our nature.

Kill switches phones, kill switches on cars. Kill switches on everything we own.
Let's create a society where everything we rely on to live our lives can be deactivated on a whim by corporate or political overlords. It's not like they would or could ever abuse such power.
