The wave of layoffs hitting crypto media is not a coincidence. @dlnews shut down. @Blockworks and now @Bankless gutted their newsrooms. Crypto influencers are quietly disappearing. Twelve months ago, protocols and projects were paying a premium for sponsored articles and podcasts - all aimed at retail audiences. That market has largely evaporated. And with it, the business model that sustained it. This is what institutionalization actually looks like. Not just BlackRock or Amundi launching an ETF. The slow death of the media infrastructure built for a retail era. When we launched @TheBigWhale_ four years ago, we made a deliberate bet: the real market was coming from banks, asset managers, corporates and regulators - and they don't want content. They want intelligence. So we built something different from day one. No advertising. No paid content. A licence model where our journalists and analysts work directly for our clients - not for audience metrics. Now we're going further. We're embedding AI across the entire operation - processing market data at a scale that wasn't possible before, surfacing signals and trends that don't show up on social feeds or public sources. Not to replace our analysts. To free them up for what actually matters: thinking and talking to clients. We just launched an MCP that gives our clients direct access to The Big Whale's full intelligence - news, benchmarks, data, interviews - straight inside Copilot, Claude or ChatGPT. No context switching. The market intelligence comes to them, where they already work. More products are coming. The result is something closer to a war machine for institutional decision-makers than a media company. Today, over 150 institutions - banks, funds, insurers, corporates - pay to access that intelligence. We're 10 people, with offices in Geneva, Paris and London, and we're hiring. The model is working. And there's more to come.

I strongly disagree and I don't think media infrastructure built for retail will die. It's indeed a hard time for crypto and even harder for consumer crypto and B2C media are directly impacted: @dlnews and @LeCryptoDaily shut down, @Blockworks's media section closed, and now the multiple layoffs at @Bankless are real. However, I truly believe there is a path forward for media addressing a retail audience. I think the definition of media is evolving: If we look at the traditional definition: a media outlet is a means of communication that distributes information, ideas, or opinions. New-gen media are emerging where socials come first, focusing on X, YouTube, Insta, and TikTok where the line between an entrepreneur, an influencer, and a politician will be blurry. With a focus on interactive and actionable content. This is a new media age: - @MrBeast is the perfect example of this. - @Polymarket and @Kalshi are brand-new examples of new-gen media. - @tbpn Podcast, acquired by @OpenAI for $100M, is another example. @a16z understands this and invested in @MTSlive, a new-generation media company. a16z even launched their own media division to support their portfolio companies. Consumer-facing media will take a major place in this upcoming world. As AI makes product creation and development easier, distribution will be the real moat, and media facing a retail audience is the answer. But don't get me wrong: a few institutional media outlets like @TheBigWhale_ will also take a major place in this upcoming era and answer a real need from institutions.

Every entrepreneur should read this TLDR: The 6 Levels of AI-Native Companies by @annimaniac L0: AI as theater (nothing real, just nice speeches; knowledge is undocumented and AI doesn't do much) L1: Personal productivity (everyone uses AI independently; workflows leave when employees do) L2: Team workflows (shared context across teams; functional workflows but siloed per function) L3: Organizational infrastructure (agents act across systems of record; non-engineers author shareable skills. Agents can update CRMs, open PRs, run analyses, etc.) L4: Compounding OS (system learns from itself; agents update agents; agents have policy-driven decision authority within scoped domains; non-engineers ship production tools in hours) L5: Self-driving organization (doesn't exist yet, but could look like: the system senses, decides, acts within delegated authority, update shared and learns with humans governing strategy, taste, risk, values, and exceptions rather than running the loops themselves) I believe my company is around stage 3.
