The world would be a better place if more people read history. What Xi actually said was: "Can China and the United States overcome the Thucydides Trap and create a new paradigm of major-country relations?" The Thucydides trap is about a rising and existing power not a rising and declining power. Xi's statement is conciliatory. We must recall how the Pelopenesian war ended: "After this Lysander sailed into Piraeus, the exiles returned, and the Peloponnesians with great enthusiasm began to tear down the walls to the music of flute-girls, thinking that that day was the beginning of freedom for Greece." - Xenephon
Gordon G. Chang@GordonGChang

Today, Xi Jinping insulted Trump by publicly mentioning the Thucydides Trap in front of him, implying that the U.S. is a declining power and that China is a rising one.

@thedavidgorski @bigtimetapin why? engineers should like things that make the platform more useful the issue is that the alternatives to FIFO don't work, BAM pioneered 50ms FBO right?

FIFO leaks value to latency games. Frequent Batch Auctions / Ordering "leaks" value to the validator. Just run a validator bro. Apps should be vertically integrated. Furthermore, validator value accrual means SOL value accrual. Are you gonna align or should I bring the cane out?

There is no way for sol stakers to activate a feature gate and to force increase base fees in bulk without relying on a third party (even if it’s the same operators) like they can on mainnet. So while all the validators sharing stuff is great and is a good side hustle for nodes, it’s not long term defensible. @zmanian speed ran all these experiments at cosmos already. L1’s are going to live or die by atomic composition of all the markets in the same state machine. It’s the only way they can capture any value from network effects. Bulk should deploy both markets imho, see which one actually gets more traction.

@jayendra_jog It gets routed to the stakers and is effectively a dividend paid straight to Solana holders

even more important than # of transactions is who gets to benefit from priority fees / MEV rollups retain priority fees for themselves, whereas anything thats built fully onchain routes that value to the ecosystem one of the reasons that pump.fun was so effective in helping grow solana eco

Left: Pacifica ~350 transactions a day, Right: Phoenix Perps ~350000 transactions a day. Pacifica is to Solana as Hyperliquid is to Arbitrum. I have nothing against Pacifica but it is as much of a competitor to Solana as Hyperliquid is. Binance and Coinbase also hold customer funds on Solana in Binance deposit adresses. That does not make Binance or Coinbase an exchange on Solana. I say this all not to disparage Constance or the Pacifica team, I wish them the best of luck but I just want to explain the rationale behind supporting teams that are actually building perpetual futures on Solana. Those teams contribute to transaction volume, network effects, and revenue for the chain. The world in which Pacifica unseats Hyperliquid is no better for Solana than the one in which Lighter or Aster unseat Hyperliquid.

Constance W 🌊@ConstanceWaing

When we started building in 2025, we picked Solana because it was the best chain for what we wanted to do and I was personally bullish on the ecosystem. We had no grants nor raised any funds from investors. We wanted to build a great product first and let the market decide. A year and a half later, Pacifica contributes a major part of perp volume on Solana. The market defined us as a Solana perp DEX and users solidified it organically before we ever pushed that narrative. Many people have asked me if our growth came from Foundation support. The answer is no. Regardless of what the Foundation chooses to back, we have consistently driven flow to the network since day one. Our TVL sits on Solana, trades settle onchain, and we built a unified margin system that supports $SOL as the only non-stablecoin collateral. These are the facts. DeFi exists across a broad spectrum of execution quality, liquidity depth, and transparency. Builders should be free to explore different architectures without being dismissed for not fitting a specific mold. We're proud of what we've built and grateful to every trader and community member who got us here. We will keep shipping what the market demands. No hard feelings. Keep building 🐬

@naruto11eth Because txs pay fees lol Phoenix trade pays 4 orders of magnitude higher total fees than Pacifica. Despite not having a paid incentives points program.

@MaxResnick ummm agreed on everything but having more # of txns is just a vanity metric right? how does it matter if one has 35k and another has 350k?

the core role of a blockchain foundation is to allocate scarce resources in service of network growth. credible neutrality is a largely irresponsible way to try to do this.

@bigtimetapin @johnrobertreed It doesn’t enforce a sub slot market tick. 1) VDFs don’t work like that as @PGarimidi pointed out. 2) even if they do work like that it doesn’t ENFORCE a market tick. Leaders can still do whatever they want.

Maybe this is a contrarian take but I find Solana's near term roadmap to be FAR more interesting and compelling than MCP. - 150-200ms slots brings solana to closer to parity with hyperliquid / DZ now above 50% adoption helps reduce global latency - 2-slot leaders span / 50ms ticks also brings solana closer to hyperliquid, but also effectively reduces censorship resistance in the case of a malicious leader (just looks more like a delay) On Terminal Wars 2.0 / Perp Dex Wars — I believe the winners will win because of 1) product selection, 2) market makers/ depth, 3) composability/capital efficiency as a function of cross-margining, and 4) leverage. Do those things right, and traders will move. We're in inning 2-3. No ones lunch is safe. Super-liquidity is a feature of crypto. x.com/bw_solana/stat…
