@SpecialPuppy1 @SNFonNBC @BarryOnHere @NBCSports @CSimmsQB Allen, Jackson, and Staubach should be replaced. If it’s prime, I think unitas, tarkenton, and Montana should be there instead. Even Brees has a better case than allen/jackson/staubach. In terms of prime, I think only manning, Rodgers, and Marino are in the Brady convo

@RoKhanna The more underrated part is how they guide their cashiers to being great operations managers, giving them vital skills. A lot of similarities to how Ritchie and the other servers in the Bear develop skills in managing the flow of restaurants.

If workers actually earned a living wage and could afford a middle class life, there would be so much less bitterness and anger in our society. Costco shows that policies of a living wage and worker ownership can also be good for business. wsj.com/business/retai…

@EmmaVigeland Labour did not squeak by in 2024 lol, but the UK also has had some structural problems that the left was probably not able to handle either

@ImNotOwned Also, if someone wanted to actually save the US’ relationship with Israel, they would do what Rahm just did and let Israel know how Americans (and particularly American Jews) feel about their government.

It’s also extremely important because the idea Rahm Emanuel could be anti-Semitic is one of the funniest concepts imaginable

The Rahm turn on Israel is easily the craziest shit if you remember Rahm v. Rhodes stuff in the Obama admin and an unbelievably positive sign

@AJentleson Opposition does matter here though. Idk if Troy would have gotten 72 percent of the vote in the senate race, but my gut is that he probably would have still beaten mills

Platner’s policy positions were surely part of his appeal, but at the same time, 100k of the 150k Mainers who voted for Platner for senator did not vote for Troy Jackson for governor. Jackson only got 46k votes. Clearly Mainers did not see the two men as interchangeable. 1/2

So many people in the national press seem motivated to paint Maine voters as a bunch of dumb hogs who were hypnotized by Platner's voice and didn't care about taxing billionaires and cutting arms sales to Israel. I wonder why they'd want to foreclose these conversations, hmm...

@EmmaVigeland I wouldn’t go that far. Platner clearly had a following/fan base in maine and it was not just bc of his demeanor. However, is it likely that he was up 50 points on Mills bc the Dem party is that much more progressive in Maine—a state where angus king is fairly untouchable?

@daveweigel There was a productivity boom in the 1990s that largely offset all the fiscal tightening. When the deficit was fully wiped out by the end of his tenure, the dot-com bubble burst and there was a bit of a recession

There’s clearly a ratchet effect with tax cuts. Some part of this; Dems keep taking office during crises (2009/2021) when it would be stupid to raise taxes. But people instantly get used to new rates and breaks, Dems just say — okay keep them, we’ll just tap the billionaires.

@AlanZibel Is it really hard for him to accept that a candidate he once liked could have been a bad person? I feel like every American who closely follows politics has gone through this feeling

@jacobkornbluh He does underperform other Dems among Jewish voters, but I think he’s so far maintaining a net-positive image bc many Jewish voters don’t view him as a threat to American Jews’ quality of life. On the other hand, many do blame Netanyahu for making anti-semitism worse in the US

Mamdani more popular than Netanyahu among U.S. Jews. The AP poll suggests that Mamdani’s positions on Israel have not prevented him from maintaining a net-positive image among American Jews overall. forward.com/news/836468/ma…

@Big3Tennis Zverev beating Djokovic doesn’t seem far fetched. If Sinner wins, I don’t see a realistic path (barring a sinner injury/sickness)

I don’t usually say things like this but: Sinner vs Djokovic is effectively the final I’d be astonished if the winner of that match doesn’t win it all.

@Gill_Gross It feels like for this reason (and the fact that fritz might get nervous about having a great path to the final) was reason to expect mean reversion today

On paper, there is zero reason for Zverev to get tight at any point... he just won a slam, he's playing on his worst surface, he lost 7 straight matches to Fritz. He can sell himself the underdog story. That's not great news for Fritz, or future opponents this tournament.

If your top priority is Susan Collins the most important thing is to get Platner off the ticket ASAP and all the factionalists trying to hold it hostage for leverage — leverage they want to use to get a Platner-linked nominee who Collins can wield that against — are your enemy.

@MarkLundie1 @Big3Tennis He beat him in AO and it’s gonna be above 90 on Friday. Having said that, he needs to be playing the numbers well like he did in AO (succeeding in the only return game he tries, picking his spots on his serve well, etc.)

@vanshv2k FAA needs to serve very well and defend well on his backhand, two things Djokovic can otherwise expose. I think someone like cobolli who could grind Novak would have been a tougher matchup

Sinner channeling his inner John Isner with elite consistent serve-botting while being average from the baseline for his high standards. This Wimbledon hasn’t come easy for him so you do wonder about what happens in a Semi if Novak gets past FAA straightforwardly. BIG IF though…

John Fetterman, whose disgust with Platner has been an ongoing theme all year, tells me that "Bernie Sanders needs to apologize for pushing this predator to Democrats, especially after the serious allegations of abuse towards women." Fetterman endorsed Sanders for president 2x, Sanders campaigned for him in 2018 (lieutenant governor), and the Fetterman and Platner campaigns shared strategists. But they went after each other during Platner's scandals (Platner called Fetterman an "asshole") and both resent being compared to each other. Sanders, meanwhile, has not said anything about Platner since the Politico story ran. krcrtv.com/news/nation-wo…

@bgtennisnation A bit of a throwback but this felt a lot like the Roddick-Sampras 2002 us open match. Roddick was the up and coming star everyone was talking about and Sampras was the guy that everyone thought was past his prime. Then Sampras dominated Roddick.
