🇦🇷MILEI IS SLASHING IMPORT TAXES In a push to open Argentina’s economy, @JMilei is cutting import taxes to give consumers access to more affordable goods. Starting in December, the tax-free limit on international purchases will rise from $1,000 to $3,000 per package, while personal imports will enjoy a $400 tariff exemption. Economy Minister Luis Caputo says this move will allow Argentine shoppers to pay only the value-added tax on many imports. Source: Devdiscourse

😂 I've not seen any adult content... evidently the algorithms are not going my way. It's like life, we're all going to have many things in common, most of us share common values, but of course we're going to have views that at times are diametrical opposed. So I don't agree with your views on Elon, so be it, but on the other hand I bow down to your superior knowledge of Belgium beers 😂🍻 Stick around, because who knows one day I could well be sat in a Belgium bar, and need your knowledgeable assistance. Because by default I invariably will order a pair of Bollekes 😂

I've followed John since we first joined Twitter back in 2018. John is without question, the most well informed, insightful, & articulate individuals that we follow. This post absolute hits the nail squarely on the head. Have a great day John.
John Chivers@jtchivers

The thing about leaving X for alternative platforms is all very interesting, but I'm not sure that publicly stating you're intolerant of differing views is the win people think it is. It's fine to leave quietly. One of the things I've enjoyed about the platform historically is the ability to have exchanges with people who possess different views, chiefly to test my own and revise them as appropriate, insofar as others' opinions weren't censored under the previous regime. This was particularly valuable during the Brexit years, when, with a couple of exceptions, I somewhat disappointingly found surprisingly little informed opinion on the part of my opponents, but when I did, it was enjoyably challenging. Had I missed important information in forming and indeed changing my opinions over previous years? Had new aspects come to light I might have missed? The urge to silence differing views is not a great trait in anyone: ignore them or counter them with more robust narratives. Musk's takeover of X has clearly riled many because they now see opinions they don't like no longer being suppressed… or they just don't like Musk's politics, which, like many others who've been on a similar journey, used to be quite different. But if ideas are bad, let them be shown as such with the oxygen of publicity. It's always worth reminding people that in the UK, the openly (and actually) racist BNP was finished after its leader Nick Griffin was given the oxygen of publicity on BBC Question Time and was allowed to freely express his views for all to hear. People don't need the support of self-important and self-appointed gate-keepers of opinion to keep them from "dangerous narratives". They just need better evidence and more convincing arguments. If you don't have them, maybe you need to look a little closer to home. Stating you're removing yourself from challenging views or being unable to challenge or ignore them isn't really of much interest to others. If you're merely saying you're opening an account somewhere else and inviting others to follow you there, that's one thing and all well and good. But if you're an individual, or worse still a company, organisation or (heaven forbid!) a media outlet (cough, the Guardian), and you're not capable of dissenting opinion or engaging in debate (the Guardian showed it wasn't capable years ago, when it turned off comments on its articles because it was forever being ratioed), and you're therefore wholly disengaging from X, frankly you won't really be missed anyway, as you're not bringing anything useful to the table. Flouncing off in a sulk doesn't impress most normal people. Most of us learn that when we're unspoilt children whose peers keep us grounded.

I think there's a lot of folks disliked Musk's support of Trump, but just put it down to him being a bit crazy and dealt with it But now the unthinkable happened and Musk can be seen as a major catalyst, a lot will no longer consider buying a Tesla And in the USA, you're a democrat, you gong to go there, really? Sure, TSLA had a nice pop, but the reputational impact is huge, and the gutting of the IRA will be devastating for sales

Like it or not, many, especially here in 🇪🇺 Europe, view owning a Tesla product or even Tesla stock after Elon actively supported Trump and hangs out in Mar-a-Lago as a political statement and it's not a positive one. I believe that the majority of customers will choose the best product for their needs, but there is also a hard-to-quantify movement of people who will not buy Tesla products anymore as long as Elon is active in politics. It's not so much that Elon supports Trump, but how he does it and the statements he goes public with. $tsla

Except that the fossil-fuel industry is subsidised more than any other, already creating a market distortion The way it's dealt with in Belgium seems best - there's no point-of-sale subsidies, but fr company cars the benefit in kind is based on the emissions, and for anything other than an EV the taxes are now punitive

Cutting incentives be it in the USA, Europe or anywhere else will help volume BEV manufacturers like Tesla and BYD and make it harder for legacy automakers to achieve profitability. Incentives distort market conditions and usually do not lead to the expected result of protecting and promoting certain manufacturers or industries because innovation and the need to reduce costs are pushed in the background.
Alex@alex_avoigt

The biggest problem that legacy automakers have is not even their inadequate BEV technology, but the incentives they receive from governments that cause them to not cut costs fast enough and avoid innovation, and the short-term thinking of unions' outlandish demands that drive them into bankruptcy. The winners are Asian automakers and Tesla. $tsla

So it turns out that Trump appointed a man who allegedly slept with a minor as his attorney general. Is MAGA OK with this? According to ABC News: “The woman at the center of the DOJ's probe of Rep. Matt Gaetz testified to the House Ethics Committee that he had sex with her when she was 17 years old, sources say.”

I'm totally aligned with RFK with regards to his views on processed food, but he's plain wrong on vaccinations Yes, maybe you could argue that the Covid vaccines were rushed out without sufficient clinical trials, but that was a fast response to an emergency situation Otherwise historically, vaccines have been a huge benefit and many of the folks reading this would have died in infancy if they didn't exist scientificamerican.com/article/see-ho….

I am DISGUSTED that Trump would pick RFK for HHS. Our government has been doing a FANTASTIC job collaborating with Big Pharma to foster a healthy society and efficient healthcare system. WHY are we trying to destroy their progress????

It might be heresy to say, but I never understood the popularity and cult fan base of The Grateful Dead. Unlike the tight Allman Brothers extended jams, to me, The Dead endlessly noodled to the point of musical boredom. What made them such a great band?

You're delusional if you think the GOP are going to stop subsidising the oil-industry Don't forget Trump met with the oil-execs and offered then a deal a few months back One of Trump's campaign pledges was to gut the IRA, and fair dues, that's what's going to happen And now everyone seems surprised... 🤷‍♂️

It is with great regret that I've made the decision to leave X, formally Twitter. I've been pondering it for some time now, and the feelings have only intensified in the last hours. But it's really time for me to go. Been fun catching up, but I really do need to have a crap, I've got an awful turtles head brewing, & frankly I'll be touching cloth if I leave it any longer!! 💩🐢🤣 Catch you all later 😜
