Iran's naval capabilities are insane. They have a fleet of specialized small torpedo boats and have even developed small submersible torpedo boats that can approach at high speeds before submerging to strike. The US Navy is facing a completely new type of threat.

@DavePSherry @DD_Geopolitics I think Iran have plans in place believing there is an attack likely to happen. They seem to cover a lot of contingencies. The death of service personnel, regardless of which side they serve is a tragedy for the families

I went on a tour of one in Sydney & I can’t believe service personnel can work in such a confined space they are definitely a special breed of people. I know very little about submarines. They can police civilian traffic and deter smaller navies, but they have no chance in a million to stop a big navy.

Iran has over 20 Ghadir mini-subs - only $20 million apiece - lying silently on the floor of the Persian Gulf; only 50 meter-deep waters - where sonar is useless. They fire a torpedo at over 300 km/h that no defense system can intercept. And no, the Americans can't find them.
