🚨🚨⚡️Summary of the president’s speech today: He calls it diplomacy but we see a dangerous lack of awareness. Somalia calls it nothing more than delay “for midnimo”. They diminish him to a region, yet he grants them the status of a nation without hesitation. 🤦🏽‍♂️ But they’re known as a “Failed State”??! They dismiss him as “gooni goosato” a separatist while he still reaches out, calling them “walaalo,” his brothers. What is this? patience, or political self-deception? Their actions speak with hostility, yet his response is silence. “Maamulna laga dul dhisay”?! At what point does restraint stop being wisdom and start looking like weakness?

This is not right. I get advocacy, but impersonating official Somaliland accounts crosses a line. Fabricating content like this actually harms Somaliland's credibility and undermines its case. In what world is it ok for Somaliland to accept criminals from another country accused of committing immigration fraud in the US? @RepOfSomaliland, you can advocate for SL like everyone else without presenting yourself as an official account.

Today I had the honour of listening to Dr Eric Njoya from Dublin City University (DCU), who delivered the Abdinasir Memorial Lecture on African aviation. Abdinasir Muse Abdirahman, a proud son of Somaliland, was tragically murdered in Mogadishu, Somalia, in February 2024. He believed deeply in the power of aviation to connect people, with a particular passion for its development and expansion across Africa. It was incredibly moving to see his legacy continue in such a meaningful way.

If Somalia's government can mobilise thousands of troops, swiftly move heavily-armed Turkish-trained troops and hardware for nearly 200 km - over hostile territory - in a show of might and in a bid to forcibly dislodge a recalcitrant regional leader, the question arises: why not direct this lethal military might against Al-Shabaab?
