Planet Maynard Patreons 1st to see the 1987 tape transfer they paid for ofAfternoon Show segments with James Valentine and myself. The Australian Television Archive did the tape transfer. It is a tribute to James Valentine that he could make these segments coherent. He is missed.

So much being said for so very long about toilets. Not once has anyone mentioned men’s tree privilege. Or hubcaps come to that.

@CDisillusion Thanks why I only use the one ring light. Frivolous newscasters.

...Added together, they end up as barely passable face lighting. Except, in this case, on the neck. The shirt collar cuts the fill light, creating a little window of top-only light casting that chin shadow. The top edge moves with the collar, the bottom with the talking jaw. /🧵

I shouldn't have dropped all that acid in 1974. The flashbacks are gnarly...

@ThomasDolby Good idea. I was thinking “latency”. But I’m sure the recording look and sound great.

@Will_Tanner_1 Not true though. A golfing partner told him of the name: he liked the ring of it. The Hampstead houses were built 20 years before Goldfinger was written and most of his big London projects were built after Fleming's death. In the novel Goldfinger lives in a Victorian mansion.

My favorite Ian Fleming story is that he named the infamous Bond villain "Goldfinger" because at the time he was writing the books, Marxist, modernist architect Erno Goldfinger was ruining London with his horrifically ugly buildings Particularly, he put a modernist house in Fleming's sometime-home of Hampstead, London, and Fleming allegedly hated it So he risked lawsuits to get in a jab at such architectural horrors
ADONIS@adonispara

Fleming wrote Casino Royale at 44. before that he was a spy, a journalist, a banker, a stockbroker. he spent his career quietly collecting experiences he knew he'd one day write about. then he moved to Jamaica, bought a typewriter, and poured all of it into one character.

More Afternoon Show antics with James Valentine from 1987. This time it's bus travel to WA and Go-Go dancing warm ups. James a pro as always... maynard.com.au/james-valentin…
