The building at 263 Washington St. must be demolished. Today, the City of Binghamton is putting the owner on notice — tear down this dangerous property ASAP or the City will demolish it and send them the bill. For years, this property owner has been in court and has let this eyesore crumble. Time's up.

Exciting progress for Binghamton's North Side! The City of Binghamton has officially launched revitalization efforts for the Binghamton Plaza site. After taking ownership of the 24-acre property earlier this month following a hard-fought legal battle, we are wasting no time: ✅ MKSK Studios is leading a feasibility study and redevelopment plan ✅ A public engagement website is live — residents can share their vision and get updates direct from City Hall ✅ Project Advisory Committee has held a kick-off meeting ✅Environmental testing and pre-demolition work is underway Share your input for the future of this site: engagemksk.mysocialpinpoint.com/binghamton-pla…

Today, the City officially took ownership of the Binghamton Plaza. After decades of decline, this strategic North Side property is now under public control. This is an important milestone in our efforts to clean up one of Binghamton’s biggest eyesores and revitalize the surrounding neighborhood. This has been a long time coming. We never gave up the fight. Stay tuned. More coming soon on next steps for the site.

New York State Dem @SenatorCooney tells our @JasonBeeferman the state should think bigger when it comes to investing in transportation infrastructure. "High Speed Rail can be the Erie Canal of 2026 and beyond," he said at @POLITICOLive's Albany Summit.

Tomorrow, it’s a gold medal morning 🇺🇸 I’ve directed the State Liquor Authority to suspend enforcement of alcohol service hours from 6–10 AM so bars and restaurants can open early and fans can watch the U.S. go for the gold together. This is only for counties not under a State of Emergency.  New Yorkers in emergency areas should stay home, stay safe, and cheer loud! Go USA!

There’s real movement on passenger rail in our region. @PennDOTNews advanced plans to restore passenger rail service between Scranton and New York City. That step carries weight here in the Southern Tier. A restored Scranton–NYC line reestablishes a critical piece of the corridor that historically connected our communities. When rail returns to Scranton, the conversation naturally shifts north. That’s where Binghamton comes in. We’ve been engaged with partners and tracking this effort closely because progress to Scranton strengthens the case for expanding service further into Upstate New York. Stay tuned for next steps in Binghamton! 2822news.com/news/penndot-p…

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the completion of Confluence Court, a $45 million affordable and supportive housing development at 200 Court Street in the city of Binghamton. The project transformed a long-vacant manufacturing warehouse into 111 all-electric apartments, including 60 homes with on-site services for veterans experiencing homelessness and others in need of support to live independently. Under Governor Hochul’s leadership, New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) has created or preserved over 1,100 affordable homes in Broome County. Confluence Court continues this effort and complements Governor Hochul’s $25 billion five-year Housing Plan which is on track to create or preserve 100,000 affordable homes statewide. “Confluence Court showcases the incredible impact we can have when we invest boldly in our communities and in New Yorkers,” Governor Hochul said. “By transforming this historic building into vibrant, affordable homes with on-site supportive services, we are creating new opportunities for veterans and vulnerable New Yorkers to thrive. My administration is working closely with local officials to ensure residents in every region of this state have access to safe, affordable housing and the support they need to succeed.” hcr.ny.gov/news/governor-… @NYstateparks @nysotda @NYSOASAS @NYSERDA @CityBing @helio_health @GovKathyHochul

CMP Solutions is expanding its operations, investing $9 million to modernize its Binghamton facility and create more than 60 new jobs. This is another strong signal that manufacturing in the City of Binghamton is growing and thriving. CMP’s decision to expand its operations reflects confidence in our community’s future and the strength of our workforce. This investment means more good-paying jobs in our urban core and reinforces Binghamton’s role as a hub for next-generation advanced manufacturing. Binghamton remains a city where businesses choose to invest and grow. esd.ny.gov/esd-media-cent…

A social media post is circulating with apparent misinformation about ICE activity on Binghamton’s North Side. BPD has confirmed the officers in the photos are not ICE agents but members of local law enforcement conducting normal duties. At this time, there is no credible information of ICE presence or activity in Binghamton. To reiterate, BPD does not partner with ICE on its 287(g) task force model.

Elected officials at all levels of government must condemn ICE’s reckless and deadly actions in Minnesota. We must also condemn the Trump administration’s dangerous response to the killing of Alex Pretti, which has included lying to the American people and contradicting video evidence and facts. With no oversight or accountability, ICE threatens the legitimacy of law enforcement officers everywhere who work in good faith to keep communities safe. This is not what America stands for. The core principles of our democracy and our Constitution are being threatened. We must all find the courage to speak out — regardless of our political party or who we vote for.

Thank you to the Binghamton Police Department for their quick work to take the suspect in this morning’s shooting on Hayden Street into custody. This incident is a tragic reminder of the very real dangers and life-shattering impacts of domestic violence. As a City, we must continue to prioritize public safety above all else, delivering resources to help law enforcement do their jobs safely, solve cases and work side-by-side with neighborhoods to prevent crime.
