I am aware of the very visible fire currently burning on Fort Carson. While this incident is outside Colorado Springs city boundaries, our commitment to regional partnership and public safety does not stop at a line on a map. The Pikes Peak Mutual Aid Strike Team has been activated and Colorado Springs Fire Department resources have been deployed to support the response. Please avoid the area to allow first responders to do their work safely. We will continue to monitor the situation and support as needed.

Honored to join fellow mayors and city leaders at the @leagueofcities Annual Cities Conference in Washington D.C. for a conversation about America’s 250th anniversary. In @CityofCOS, we have the unique privilege of celebrating two milestones at once - America’s 250th and Colorado’s 150th year of statehood. Across our state and city, we’re marking the moment through storytelling, tourism initiatives like the statewide digital passport, and various community celebrations. Moments like this aren’t just about looking back. They are an opportunity to reconnect with one another, reflect on our shared journey, and renew our hope for the next 250 years.

@CityofCOS is proud to recognize March as American Red Cross Month and to celebrate the incredible work the Red Cross carries out right here in our community. In moments of crisis, the Red Cross reminds us what service to others truly looks like. Whether responding to disasters, organizing blood drives, or training everyday people in CPR and first aid, they help ensure that when our neighbors face their hardest moments, someone is ready to step forward and help. To the volunteers, partners, and community members who make this work possible, thank you. Your compassion and your willingness to serve help make Colorado Springs a community that shows up for one another when it matters most. @COWYRedCross

@cityofcos has been recognized as one of the Top 10 Most Caring Cities in America, and moments like this demonstrate why. Thanks to the generosity of the @airbnb Community Fund, @CareandShareFB received a $50,000 check that will provide more than 120,000 meals for families across our region. Care and Share’s work helps to stabilize households, ease affordability pressures, and prevent crises before they begin. When the private sector, nonprofits, and local government work together, powerful things happen. It truly takes a village to ensure families across our region have the support they need to thrive. Thank you to Airbnb and Care and Share for helping our community flourish. 🤝

Prepared communities are resilient communities. With warmer, drier weather already here, wildfire season is on our minds. Colorado Springs knows this reality all too well. Experiences like the Waldo Canyon Fire remind us how critical it is to be ready before the smoke is in the air. The Ready, Set, Go program gives every resident simple steps to stay informed, stay safe, and protect what matters most. Let’s look out for one another and do our part. Together, we can keep @CityofCOS safe by being Ready, Set, Go. @CSFDPIO Learn more at coloradosprings.gov/readysetgo

Our Colorado Springs community grieves deeply alongside the family and loved ones of Sgt. Benjamin N. Pennington, who was stationed at Fort Carson. Sgt. Pennington’s life was marked by courage, service, and a willingness to stand in the gap for others. Like so many who wear the uniform of our nation, he answered the call to serve with quiet strength and sacrifice. For that, we are profoundly grateful. In moments like this, we are reminded that behind every uniform is a beloved son, brother, friend, and teammate. Today, our hearts are with his family, his fellow soldiers, and the entire military community as they carry this heavy loss. Abbey and I are lifting them up in prayer and asking our entire community to do the same. May they feel the embrace of a grateful city and the comfort that comes from knowing Sgt. Pennington’s life and service will not be forgotten. May we honor his memory not only with our words, but by continuing to stand with and support the brave men and women who serve and protect our nation; and the families who serve alongside them every day.

March is Women’s History Month - a time to celebrate the courage, leadership, and impact of women who have shaped Colorado Springs and our nation. Thank you to Rochelle Janecek and the team at Colorado Salt Cave Wellness Center, a wonderful woman-owned local business, for hosting District 4 City Councilmember @KimberlyisGold and me as we signed this proclamation. From pioneers like Helen Hunt Jackson and Julie Penrose to the women leading in our schools, businesses, military, nonprofits, and neighborhoods today - their contributions continue to strengthen our community and move @CityofCOS forward.

I am feeling inspired by my visit to Project Diakonia. Their mission is to empower underserved youth, ages 17–24 through vocational training and education so these young men and women can transform their lives. This program teaches skills, builds confidence and instills hope for the next generation of leaders. Programs like this one strengthen our workforce and positively impact our local economy. Great work!

Happy Read Across America Week! Yesterday, I had the joy of reading to kindergartners at Cheyenne Mountain Elementary School. 🏫 @cmsd12 Reading with our kids isn’t just fun - it builds connection, confidence, and a foundation for lifelong success. 🙌 The future of @CityofCOS is bright, and it’s in very good hands with these little ones.

As tensions continue to rise in the Middle East, I have heard from several residents who have expressed understandable concerns about our city’s security. Let me say this clearly: the safety of Colorado Springs remains our top priority.

As home to critical military installations and a city that plays an important role in our nation’s defense, we take these concerns seriously. I have spoken directly with our Police Chief Adrian Vasquez to ensure our intelligence and public safety teams are fully engaged. He has affirmed that CSPD remains in close coordination with our federal partners, including the FBI, and is actively monitoring any potential threats. At this time, there is no known threat to our community. However, we remain vigilant.

Colorado Springs is a resilient city. We are a city of service members, first responders, families, and neighbors who look out for one another. That strength and unity matter. If you see something that concerns you, say something. Report suspicious activity to local authorities. Public safety is strongest when we work together.

We will continue to stay informed, coordinated, and prepared. And we will continue doing what we always do; protecting the community we love. Please know that your city leadership is fully engaged.

Last night, I had the privilege of attending the @CSPDPIO annual awards ceremony - an evening honoring the extraordinary service of our officers, civilian staff, and community members. I was especially moved by the veterinary team recognized with the Citizen’s Award of Appreciation for saving K9 Officer Roam’s life after he was gravely injured in the line of duty last fall. Their compassion and expertise made all the difference. Congratulations to all who were recognized, and thank you for your courage, dedication, and commitment to keeping @CityofCOS safe.

What a powerful evening last night celebrating 20 years of @FosteringHopeCO! Their works reminds us that the flourishing of a city begins with children who are safe, loved, and supported. And that when you change the trajectory of one child’s life, you change the trajectory of our city. My wife Abbey and I are proud to stand alongside the families, children, and volunteers who are building a model of wraparound care that is changing lives here in @CityofCOS and preparing to impact cities across the nation.

I recently had the honor of attending the graduation ceremony for a group of remarkable men and women who completed the Colorado Springs Police Department Training Academy 💙 As I looked across the room, I didn’t just see new officers. I saw 24 individuals who have chosen a life of service at a time when that calling requires both strength and heart. As mayor, I am committed to ensuring our officers have the resources, training, and support they need to do their jobs well. A safe city is a great city and a great city is a safe city. To our 24 newest officers: We are proud of you. We are praying for you. We are grateful you chose to serve this great city.

I had a very productive meeting with Chief Master Sergeant of the U.S. Space Force, John F. Bentivegna, to discuss how Colorado Springs can continue supporting our Guardians and all service members who call our community home. We talked about strengthening the critical relationship between the Pentagon and military communities across the country, the growth (actually, doubling) of the U.S. Space Force, expanding healthcare access locally and through telehealth across state lines, and creating incentives to make housing more affordable for military families. Whether you’re a USSF Guardian, or serving in any military branch, the @CityofCOS proudly supports our entire military and veteran community across the Pikes Peak region. #SpaceForce #SemperSupra
