Hey @solo_mining why would you file a trademark for „Nerdminer“ which is obviously our brand?!

The EUIPO register shows that Bolt Engineering GmbH, the company behind Solomining, has already secured EU trademark registration no. 019206471 for the word mark "BITAXE". It has also filed further applications for the Bitaxe logo, Nerdaxe, and even Nerdminer. This makes clear that the issue goes far beyond a single complaint. It is about taking control of key names and branding around an open-source project. #details/owners/2434107" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">euipo.europa.eu/eSearch/#detai…

The open-source vs closed-source war of the last 3ish years is just a scummy marketing tactic. It's not real. You have always had the right to take apart proprietary tools or content to find out how they work & modify them to your personal needs. Your curiosity is important and inalienable. * Copyright and Trademark licenses only exist to protect the creators/owners right to be Compensated for their work and defend the quality or representation of their brand. Opposite of those protections is not open-source, which maintains private copyright ownership, but when a work enters the Public Domain. Public Domain works forfeit their license and related control. Neither is better than the other but they are Different. If a work is not given to the Public Domain then you, the general public, do Not own and control it. There are legal and personal pros & cons to each one, and it's fine to have personal preferences... But lying to your audience that there's a moral imperative to harass other builders or to buy through that 1 license is an outright predatory money grab.

What an interesting list of closed-source licensing protections or "violations" claimed and enacted by BitAxe. Open-source works don't have these protections. Bitaxe.de is also a local competitor to Janis, the EU BitAxe representative listed below:

It appears that @solo_mining is trying to claim exclusive rights to the name “Bitaxe” and push all sellers into a licensing scheme. Can you clarify what’s happening here, @skot?

At ~45 PH/s, Public Pool is statistically expected to find a block every 5 months. It’s been running for over 2 years, yet the public instance has still found no blocks. Solo CKPool, on the other hand, consistently delivers results: 16 solo blocks in 2025 alone, many won by regular hobbyist miners with small setups. The Bitcoin network is secured by miners actually finding and building on blocks. A pool that does not contribute to block production secures nothing and pays out nothing. For most small miners doing lottery-style solo mining: CKPool is the better choice.
