Hating on the RRFS and its cap break bias is low hanging fruit. An obvious flaw in what is otherwise an effective model. Pair it with meteorology know how and it is a sharp tool. That said, I’ll miss the NAM & HREF. I rely on each for some specific setups/scenarios. Ah well…

Just not a great look on radar here right now. Not a ton of organized banding seems to be setting up. HRRR changes this as the low continues to deepen but has pushed back the start time of this banding from ~1am to ~3am.

I am getting extremely concerned with this big FGEN band. It has rapidly developed, snowfall rates in these are easily 2-4" an hour and 0 visibility. Moving Northwest.

The Euro is still a formidable run…but not the nuclear option that the GFS is, as it is a bit farther offshore and just outside the benchmark. But the 06z Euro run this morning (left) was stronger and farther NW than the 00z run last night. Meanwhile the GFS has been rock solid, so tough to bet against it. But the Euro could be right - still a formidable shut down storm…but slightly lesser impacts farther inland. Certainly worth monitoring the progression today.
