Why would anyone let your billionaire backed think tank dictate a preemptive surrender on universal healthcare? Why would anyone who supports M4A agree to strangle it in the crib because of the demands of some failson Fetterman staffers?
Adam Jentleson@AJentleson

Here’s the question for @AbdulElSayed: if you were a senator and a bill to enact free primary care for all plus an aggressive public option (like the American Health Gateway @SearchlightInst proposed) came to the floor, would you vote for it? To his enormous credit, Bernie Sanders voted for the ACA. He has also been a driving force behind policies like capping the price of insulin, getting Medicare to cover hearing aids, and empowering the government to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors. These are all extraordinarily good polices that could be transformative for many American families. Yet none of them can be called “revolutionary.” Bernie has always pushed the system to think big, but when push comes to shove, he votes for what he thinks will do the most good for the most people.

In a sense, Medicare is a public option. The question is, would you allow every American to enroll in Medicare on the same terms currently available to seniors? Or would the "public option" be different from Medicare with worse coverage/higher premiums?
tré easton@treeaston

Private sector campaigned aggressively against a public option in ‘09-10 and ‘21. To date, it remains one of the biggest unrealized goals of health reform. A true public option has to be table stakes for the next Dem administration—that’s why we include it in our plan! 😎

Pretty sexist of the Stevens Bros to force the brave and bold Mallory McMorrow out of the race just because she's a woman.
Stephen Neukam@stephen_neukam

NEWS — Haley Stevens’ supporters are pressuring Democratic leaders to back her in Michigan’s Senate primary, arguing she’s the only option for the party to avoid nominating progressive favorite Abdul El-Sayed Moderates, sources told @NOTUSreports, were very concerned about El-Sayed’s strong performance at the state convention last month. The sources said that the recent endorsements of Stevens from former Sen. Debbie Stabenow and Sen. Gary Peters’ wife were part of a effort to get previously undecided Dem leaders to back Stevens More on the push to consolidate support around Stevens w/ @Alex_Roarty @igorbobic notus.org/2026-election/…

@RepJackKimble Your salary should be some multiplication of the federal minimum wage. 10x, 12x, whatever it is, but the minimum wage should get a bump every time you pampered cunts vote in a raise for yourselves.

Just a friendly warning. We don’t even make $200k per year in Congress despite working nearly 140 days. If we aren’t properly compensated, a lot of us will go to the private sector and you will be left with some real idiots in Congress.

@RepJackKimble Tell us again why it's okay that the federal minimum wage is still $7.25 ($15k/year for full time work) and hasn't been raised since 2009 when the poors were given an extra 70 cents?

…and then has to be admitted and STILL faces an insane deductible and financial ruin…because they got sick. Folks will do anything not to admit that Medicare for All would be the single most transformational policy to ease financial anxiety and improve health in America.

I don’t think Dems & liberals should be preemptively negotiating against themselves before Dems even have power - the idea that they must already accept the “good instead of the perfect” is a fiction manufactured by oligarch think tanks to prompt preemptive capitulation on M4A. Why is anyone talking about compromise and surrendering? What, just because some oligarch think tank tweeted out a half measure? This impulse by liberals to back down even before a fight has happened is just weird — and it’s why so many Americans think Dems stand for nothing. Also — if you start out demanding a full loaf, you have a better chance of at least getting a half a loaf. If you start out demanding a slice of bread, you are probably going to only end up getting a crumb. This is why the oligarch think tank is doing this — they want to have the debate begin with small demands. It’s a ploy. If folks believe in M4A then just fight for that. Why is that so complicated?
Rachael Bedard@RBMD1982

I don’t really see putting forward proposals that would both expand coverage to the currently uninsured and guarantee a host of essential services regardless of insurance status as “not admitting” M4A would be transformative. I’m a single payer girlie myself but if there was reasonable chance of passing free primary care 4 all (and a public option, and restored Medicaid + Medicaid expansion…) I’d be thrilled to take that deal on behalf of my precariously insured patients, and at this point in the game I’m definitely not about to let perfect be the enemy of good on improving the American healthcare system

@That1Darman @Zoomer_Doomer_ Misogynists, my ass. You're weird. I can't wait until 2028 when all of you filthy liars are bashing the Latina in favor of some pasty white centrist dude like Shapiro, Beshear or Newsom. I can wait to call you all misogynists and racists daily. You're such vile fucking liars.

@Zoomer_Doomer_ Voters are weird. There is absolutely no guarantee that every single Bernie voter becomes an AOC voter, especially since a fairly significant number of ‘16 Sanders folks are just misogynists.

Democrats pretend to oppose ICE, but 144 of them just joined Republicans in voting to give ICE even more power to steal our data and violate our rights. Haley Stevens voted for it, and Dan Goldman failed to show up at all. They can't be trusted with nominations.

If I personally was a member of Congress I’d co-sponsor Medicare for All. But I’d also happily co-sponsor this. And a world in which moderate Democrats who aren’t on board with Medicare for All are instead supporting Primary Care for All would be a meaningfully better one (both substantively and politically) than a world where moderate Democrats are running on “means tested increased tax credits for Pell grant recipients who start a small business for four years in disadvantaged communities.” This is easier to explain. It is immediately obvious to voters how they’ll benefit. The benefits themselves would help a broad swathe of people.
Sahil Kapur@sahilkapur

Scoop: Democratic think tank @SearchlightInst is pushing the party to embrace a new idea: Free primary care for all Americans. The group wants Dems to rethink their approach to health care and break out of the M4A vs ACA rut. They’re unimpressed with CAP’s proposal and warn that Dems need to have a vision beyond opposing Trump and restoring expired subsidies. “This is still our best issue, but we have not been on offense in a way that’s capturing people’s imaginations and getting them excited,” says @AJentleson. “We don’t need to be on defense or just advocating for incremental reforms.” Story w/ @BerkeleyJr: nbcnews.com/politics/polit…

@AlexanderMcCoy4 It leaves the whole current hodgepodge system of subsidies and hole patch programs like CHIP in place. We will still have the same overly complicated mess of a non-system full of loopholes for middlemen to exploit and gaps for vulnerable people to fall through. Hard pass.
