Muslims were leaving Bengal + Assam in large numbers between 1947-1950
Nehru brought them back via the Nehru-Liaquat pact in 1950, hence you see a drop in numbers between 1941-1951 and then a sharp rise by 1961 again.
Else, Assam + Bengal would have Muslims no more than 5% today.
Tripura used to be 20%+ Muslim until 1964 when 2/3 were kicked out as retaliation for attacks on Hindus in East Pakistan in 1964.
