Just out! Op-ed with @TyRBeal in @thehill -> The US Dietary Guidelines do not provide the basic nutrition essential for good health. Bottom line: We need to get nutrition back into nutrition policy thehill.com/opinion/health… -> Even if you follow the guidelines to the letter, you still won't meet goals for iron, vitamin D, choline, folate — nutrients crucial for brain development, bone health, and the prevention of birth defects, among other vital functions. -> The latest expert committee stealthily moved its own goalposts to downplay current nutrient inadequacies. Before this year, it used a benchmark called the “Recommended Dietary Allowance,” which represents the daily intake required to meet the nutritional needs of about 98% of all healthy individuals. The new report instead adopted the Estimated Average Requirement, a benchmark representing the needs of just HALF of healthy individuals. In other words, if everyone met the new benchmark, half the population would still face vitamin and mineral inadequacies. -> Because the guidelines has vilified animal foods, it MUST include refined grains, bc these are the only type that are enriched with vitamins/minerals. So the guidelines still recommends 3 servings refined grains/day @RobertKennedyJr @SecRollins @calleymeans @HouseAgGOP @HouseAgDems @SenateAgDems @SenateAgGOP

Remember the lessens from PURE, the only cohort study on diet and clinical outcomes spanning multiple world regions. Higher red meat consumption was associated with LOWER all-cause mortality. Message: some amount of meat is probably good for you.
