A majority of Americans can’t afford rent on a modest 2 bedroom. People aren't buying their first home until 40. Since 1990, the cost of housing is up 174% while wages have flatlined. We're in a housing crisis. Congress needs to act like it.

A lot of Americans in the 55–65 age range are getting forced into early retirement after being laid off and replaced. He spent 35 years working in IT and suddenly got let go. It’s that brutal gap where you’re not old enough to comfortably retire with benefits, but not young enough for a lot of companies that want younger and cheaper workers.

Can’t fix it. Charges $99 just for showing up. Then quotes me $1,300 to replace the icemaker. So I do what everyone can do now: I ChatGPT the model number. In 2 seconds: • Exact replacement part • Direct phone number • Cost: $300 Installation? 2 screws. 10 minutes. I’ll do it myself. Same thing happened with my pool heater: Repair guy quoted $2,000. I bought the part directly and fixed it myself for under $200. The problem isn’t the trades. It’s that information asymmetry is gone — and some businesses haven’t realized it yet.

In SF, many ground floor commercial spaces in new condo / apt buildings near me have been empty for 5-10+ years. Naively: why doesn't the market clear? If the asking rent is too high for any tenant, wouldn't a building owner prefer to accept a lower rent over decadal vacancy?

My husband and I have been loyal @Delta customers for over a decade. Diamond. Platinum. -- you name it. They have a lot of our money. But today we quit. Delta destroyed our property. We filed a claim. We sent every receipt, every photo, every document they demanded. We waited, were strung along. It's all a game. Then came the letter. It said our evidence — the evidence *they asked for* — "casts doubt." So we were told, in legalese, to fck off. Let's be clear about what this is: Delta broke our property. Delta made us chase them. Delta strung us along to waste our time, and our money. Because Delta does not give a single fck. This is what this country has come to. Greed disguised as loyalty programs, while charging us for the privilege of being a "valued customer." While they laugh at us and their executives receive hundreds of millions in bonuses at our expense. Figure out whose business you actually want, @Delta. Because you just made that decision for us.

@VietQNguyen This thread’s focus is land/space and water. There is plenty of one if not both. If power rates dont go up, then no problem…So why no clarity on power consumption/rates? This is the topic at hand. Where are you getting your LPG power supply stats from?

This Seattle data center moratorium is a giant pile of virtue signaling: 1) Ain’t nobody gonna build a Colossus xAI style campus mega data center in Seattle. There’s no land available for that. 2) Data centers in Seattle proper are already clustered inside Belltown and South Lake Union buildings that you couldn’t tell are actual data centers from the outside. You couldn’t tell there’s natural gas used in those. They are completely innocuous and provide plenty of tax dollars to the city. 3) Seattle has the highest office vacancy in the nation along large cities - 28% overall and 36% in the downtown CBD. We shouldn’t be closing our doors to anyone that can provide sustainable revenues and jobs. But Seattle is always a test market for bad ideas that eventually metastasize in Olympia. So this is an opportunity to educate.
