You can't hate @JosePGarza enough. 🤬
Kristina Byington@ByingtonK

As Anita Byington’s cousin, I’ve now received more direct time, attention, and genuine engagement from Governor Greg Abbott on an open murder case than Travis County DA @JosePGarza has ever given our family. After all these years regarding Anita’s case, he has still refused to meet with or even speak to me. Anita, age 21, was beaten to death in Austin in 1991. Causey confessed, was convicted by a jury in 1992, and served over 30 years. Courts ordered a new trial on claims of flawed evidence but refused to declare him innocent. Yet Garza simply dismissed the case and fast-tracked $2.5 million in taxpayer compensation to him, with lifetime annuity payments starting soon. No new trial. No proven innocence. No justice for Anita or our family. The DA’s office has cut off all contact with me, the victim’s family. Her case is now technically unsolved — a convicted killer walks free while Texas taxpayers pay the bill. @GregAbbott_TX thank you for actually listening and stepping up where the local DA has failed us. I can’t even put into words the devastation and lifelong trauma his actions have caused our family. This is exactly why we need your chief state prosecutor: to hold rogue DAs accountable and ensure victims’ families aren’t denied closure. We will not be silent. Anita deserves better. Texas deserves better. @GovHotWheels_TX

AUSTIN MAN pulls a gun on strangers at a 7-Eleven with a toddler in his car and gives cops a fake name -- all while out on bond for two felony knife assault charges against a pregnant woman. Deontae Jones: In November 2024, he spent a day shoving his girlfriend into walls. When she slips into the garage to call 911, he follows her, grabs the phone out of her hand, and smashes it on the ground. Then leaves before police arrive. The next night: Jones backs his BMW into another car at a 7-Eleven on Airport Blvd and flees. When the other driver catches up to him, Jones grabs a Taurus 9mm in his pocket and tells him he's going to shoot him. When the man's girlfriend starts recording his license plate, Jones turns on her: "I should shoot you." A three-year-old is in his car. Jones gives police a fake name when they catch him. Gun found in trunk. DA José Garza's office filed no charges on the gun. That arrest came with an active warrant for two felony knife assaults on a pregnant woman from three months earlier. Jones had been out on bond he hadn't answered for. In Dec 2025, while wearing a GPS ankle monitor, under a stay-away order: shows up at the victim's home at 11pm. She won't open the door. He kicks it until the hinges break and the frame splinters. She and her children run upstairs. Next month: Does it again, same house, same door. GPS records confirm he was there. Two weeks later: bond on the knife assault case -- reduced to $1. Travis County has had this man in its system since 2011. Burglary of a habitation, family violence with prior convictions, felony evading -- deferred, discharged, dismissed. 0 prison time.

Here’s the situation: An Austin cop is on trial related to conduct during the 2020 protests. His lawyers just accused DA José Garza's office of hiding evidence and holding secret meetings with the City of Austin - meetings never disclosed to the defense. The lawyers are asking for a court of inquiry, which is a rarely used Texas proceeding to investigate whether Garza's prosecutors committed felony evidence tampering and official oppression. Garza's response is: let's just go to trial. That's the same DA office that decides which charges get filed, which get dropped, and which repeat offenders walk. Now accused of secretly shaping the outcome of a case while telling the court it had nothing to hide. If the court of inquiry finds what the defense alleges, the question isn't just whether this trial was compromised; it's what else was.
Austin Justice@AustinJustice

Travis County DA Jose Garza has been prosecuting an Austin cop for four years for using force during the 2020 protests -- while secretly meeting with city officials about whether the CITY was the one that should have been indicted. Garza's office believed the city handed officers defective equipment and gave the orders. He negotiated with them directly. Then certified to the court that all evidence had been disclosed. But it hadn't. When your political brand is built on holding police accountable, you can't let the city quietly take the fall. So you bury it and keep prosecuting the guy who followed orders.

AUSTIN MAN walks up to a stranger using a computer on the fourth floor of the Central Library, punches him in the head so hard he's knocked out of his chair, stomps on his head multiple times while he lies unconscious on the floor -- then calmly walks back to his own computer and sits down. The victim is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Police Chief Lisa Davis (@APDChiefDavis) happened to be in the building and made the arrest herself. On a city bus in 2024, Vasquez threatened an 11-year-old boy, cocked his leg back to kick him full-force, then stood up and punched the kid's mother in the face. She's a Spanish speaker and couldn't even understand the threats. A female bystander tackled Vasquez to protect them. He punched her in the head repeatedly. All was on video. Child endangerment charge and two assaults charges. Dismissed. Six months before that, he punched a CapMetro bus driver in the mouth hard enough to cause a bloody laceration. During the arrest, he called an officer a racial slur and spit directly in his face. Felony harassment of a public servant. Dismissed to "pre-trial diversion." He also had a felony terroristic threat against a public servant. Also dismissed. His Travis County record: • 10 cases • 3 felonies -- all dismissed • 4 assaults -- all dismissed • 0 jury trials Now someone is fighting for their life in a hospital because a man with a documented pattern of unprovoked violence kept walking out of the courthouse.

America is facing a massive physician shortage, but the cause isn't what you think. We aren't just losing doctors to burnout or long hours. We are actively driving our most experienced physicians out of medicine through the endless, punishing cycle of Maintenance of Certification (MOC). Doctors with decades of pristine practice and excellent patient outcomes are being handed the exact same recertification demands as a newly minted attending. For thousands of mid-career physicians, this is the final straw. They are choosing early retirement rather than continuing to "prove" their competence through another standardized test. We lose: 📉 Invaluable mentorship. 📉 Community-focused specialists. 📉 Decades of clinical intuition. It's time for a structural realignment. A rational maintenance model is necessary to keep our doctors practicing and our communities served. What's your experience with MOC? #PhysicianShortage #Healthcare #MOC #PhysicianAdvocacy #FutureOfMedicine #PatientSafety #MedicalCommunity

It’s clarified in the thread - but there are NOT criminal charges currently being brought against the officers. It’s still early on in the internal investigation so it hasn’t even been referred to the District Attorney yet as all officer involved shootings are. However, the DA seems to still intend to put this before a grand jury where anything can happen as the DA controls that process and doesn’t allow APD involvement. This is an extraordinary case and I believe sufficient information is already out there to show grand jury isn’t necessary. There’s no need to subject these officers to that especially since it’s taking the DA over a year in almost every case to present these to the grand jury. That’s way too long and added stress for officers who have already been through a lot.

🚨BREAKING: Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza is bringing CRIMINAL CHARGES against the hero APD officers who handled the mass shooter at Buford's on West 6th Street Saturday night. This needs to be the last straw that forces our rogue DA to resign. No more of this.

WOW: The Democratic Travis County District Attorney, José P. Garza, is being BLASTED after allowing a career criminal to walk free, REFUSING to prosecute the man on three separate g*n charges before he mu*dered a father of five. Brooke Taylor: “Caleb Anthony Jenkins was charged for mu*der connected to a shooting that happened last year… José Garza had MULTIPLE chances to keep the suspect with a lengthy criminal history behind bars.” “His office either dismissed or declined to prosecute three separate gun charges dating back to 2022.”

For the general audience: Medicaid alone is 10% of our nations entire spend. ( defense is 13%) It is joint federal state, the spend is an average of 15% of state budgets. Looking for fraud doesn’t mean you want to defund Medicaid, it means you are keeping it economically solvent so you are able to pay for the care that is truly needed. 22% of Pennsylvanians are on Medicaid. Indiana’s Medicaid spending on autism therapy (ABA) exploded from $21M in 2017 to $611M in 2023—a 30-fold increase. HHS OIG found at least $56M in improper payments and major documentation failures. Read more on fraud-vulnerable Medicaid services: t2m.io/3Kjv9AE
