@CockyWilbur @DanIsett 16 of 18 schools in the B1G supported a private equity deal. Only USC and Michigan opposed. Utah’s model is somewhat unique and creative and if they navigate it successfully, it could serve as a model for other teams and conferences to follow. And PE doesn’t own Utah.

@Med_Ute @DanIsett Didn’t the big10 pretty recently just reject private equity outright? Why would they the let private equity buy a team to get into the conference?

Utah signed a PE deal, did it not?
Cole Trickle@Med_Ute

@DanIsett Texas Tech has a unique strength of billionaire backers who care about TT sports more than anything. For the most part, the rest of the Big12 can’t play that game. B1G and SEC schools will out earn the Big 12 by $30 million per year. How do you want Big12 schools to step up?

@wollibee @DanIsett Everyone has money. Utah didn’t have enough for guys like JJ Buchanan or enough to go out and simply recruit the best D Line in all of CFB, like TT did last year. There are levels to that. I’m excited to see how the PE deal works, but it won’t be as simple as $500 million cash.

@Med_Ute @DanIsett Utah has money. And it is already manifesting itself by being able to afford two starting QBs. But it's interesting to see that people think we don't, despite us starting our PE backed sports property management company that's going to infuse $500M into our athletics programs.

@Pumpjack4L @flatland_sports Nope. Never said that at all. And never disparaged TT. Great program, smart hires, talented athletes. Not sure why people keep wanting to change the discussion here. Lot of respect for you guys. We just don’t have your resources.

As I mentioned in another tweet, If your institution of higher learning has failed to produce anyone capable of being a high level doner, that sounds like an "academics" issue.

@flatland_sports You shouldn’t be. You should be proud of what your school has built. Just don’t tell other schools what they should do when they don’t have your resources (you didn’t do this…this was the entire reason for my reply here). Props to TT. Quality program.

I'm sorry that my school has produced more billionaires than yours.
Cole Trickle@Med_Ute

@flatland_sports The biggest success stories haven’t come from numerous moderately wealthy alumni rach dumping in money. They have come from small handfuls of uber wealthy donors who have expendable money. If we dont have as many of those, i wouldnt call it a failure of the academic institution.

@DanIsett @Steven505rule Nope. We are getting circular so I’ll end my points. Props to TT and what you have done. Very successful program right now. My team can’t just “step up” like TT. There are reasons TT is pulling this off and others aren’t. Congrats on your success and good luck going forward.

I don't want Texas Tech to be in the B1G (or SEC). I want Texas Tech to be in a Big XII where all the other schools step up and compete the way the Red Raiders have. Yes, that means you, Utah.

@DanIsett @Steven505rule And I’m telling you the difference between Texas Tech and Utah is those billionaires. And that makes a huge difference in this game. We see the same thing happening at BYU. They have a couple of huge billionaire donors that have really turned the tide, especially with basketball

@Med_Ute @Steven505rule You know good and well those numbers aren't public, but I'm telling you that's how it works. There's not enough money from the big guys to do all those other things.

@DanIsett @Steven505rule Great. And now I’d like to see the numbers and who is donating and how much they spent. Just because you donated doesn’t mean you know those numbers…if you do, please share. And when the billionaires are stepping up, it makes it easier on everyone. This really isn’t that hard.

@DanIsett @Steven505rule Do you have actual data on that? A breakdown on how much TT has spent on NIL and where that money comes from? If not, this is pure conjecture.

@Med_Ute @Steven505rule The really wealthy guys have the biggest impact on football, yes. But there are tens of thousands of midsize donors that have stepped up over the past few years and built the collective. That's where the success across the board comes from.

@Steven505rule @DanIsett Also, let me be clear. I’ve never had a problem with Texas Tech. And I don’t begrudge you your success. The problem I have here is acting like everyone can just do what you did. It is calling out other schools and telling them to step up, like they aren’t already trying to.

@DanIsett @Steven505rule Ok, help me out. You guys bought a very dominant defensive line last year and took those recruits away from typical blue bloods. How did you come by the money? How is it not directly due to a handful of very successful billionaires?

@DanIsett We were 11-2 last year. What counts as “cutting it”? We will remain competitive within the Big12. But the Big12 will continue to fall behind the P2. The truth is the $.

@Med_Ute It's OK to just say "our best isn't cutting it," because that's the actual truth. That perspective will make us all better.

What would make more casuals watch Big XII games? Step up and compete.
Cole Trickle@Med_Ute

@DanIsett That’s because the Big12 is a sinking ship. That’s why this is rich coming from TT fans. You have your money. That’s great. Everyone else is dealing with a starting point of -$30 million per year compared to B1G and SEC. Next they pick the best of ACC and grow more. It’s P2 now.

@Med_Ute Then there are two logical conclusions to be drawn from what you're saying 1) Utah can't compete 2) Utah won't compete Which is it?
