Discipline = Swing Decisions + Contact. Estimating K% and BB% based on plate habits and contact rate. Distribution = Batted ball types. Can reward for pulled flyballs or oppo line drives. Dong = Raw power. Bat speed. Exit velos. Good at all three? Probably a great hitter.

I get granular with it, but if I had to narrow it down to just a few: Contact%, Chase%, Barrel%, AirPull%. The spreadsheet I'm building has about a dozen or so different metrics meant to look at what I call the 3 Ds of hitting: Discipline, Distribution, and Dong.

@mike_petriello I suppose it’s close, but as a Blue Jays fan I’d never say that I’d prefer Gausman’s season to deGrom’s. Could also make the strong argument that peripherals don’t matter for a results based award

I don't have an award vote this year, but if I did.. (Judge over Cal? No wrong answer. Neither can get 'robbed.' Should be a tie. Two all timer yrs. I went with guy who just posted a 215 OPS+, one of best RHB seasons ever, over the C who hit 60 bombs. Lord they're both so good.)
