@broadwaybabyto @chirhonicea My question is what about the kids who are allergic to things other than peanuts? My son is allergic to fish and has an anaphylactic reaction to that, yet it’s not banned in his school.

@chirhonicea Good grief! How does it significantly worsen someone’s quality of life to not have peanuts at school? If that’s the case you’re mighty fragile. You can eat peanuts at home. We’ve had peanut bans for decades - this isn’t new.

“Those kids allergic to peanuts should just stay home!” The rampant individualism and “you do you” approach to Covid is responsible for this. We now view protecting others as a negative. If you have any personal risk factors - they won’t be accommodated.

CTV National News: Ending school peanut bans As some students return to class in Quebec and Alberta, some schools are moving away from bans on peanuts due to allergies.

@janafalls @Kidsdoc1Rick CANImmunize is an app that automatically reports to some public health units (though not all). Worth sharing with parents of young kids or anyone needing to track vaccinations.

@clhubes The two choices doesn’t always work and there’s more to the story. My son is anutistic and a tough drop-off means I carried him into school screaming and then the teacher held his hands so he doesn’t run while I walk away. I did have to quit my job b/c it was too much to do both

@fordnation While this sounds like fun, why is your government funding things like this instead of education and healthcare?!? Give Ontario those things!

@JonathanGilesTO @tdsb Halton Dsb is also reporting shortfall. One of the possibilities on the chopping block is special education and building maintenance. Both are critical to ensuring the success of ALL students!

The @tdsb is projecting a $34 800 000 deficit for the 2024-2025 school year. Keep your eyes peeled for the vocabulary of austerity as otherwise progressive staff and trustees begin the mental gymnastics required to make cuts: - equity of access - absenteeism - overspending

@SabiVM In Ontario it’s covered by OHIP but a referral from your doc is required. I was eligible at 35.

Doing a piece on breast cancer screening, does anyone who pays for screening for those under age 40 in provinces where referral is required? Is it out of pocket/private?

🚦 Throwback to our Children's Safety Village in 1987, which still exists today! It's designed to teach young students the importance of road safety. Schools can book their experience here: bit.ly/46s9KZ8. #HRPS50

@sarahradz_ @yvrteacher I’m outside Toronto and our favourite library has a play structure in the kids area and it’s awesome. Another community centre has a library and an indoor playground. It’s possible and a great idea! Plus when we’re there, the kids check out books.

@yvrteacher I understand the push back, I'm just tired. There's hardly anywhere that's free, open all day, all-ages and public. That's why there's so much pressure on libraries, they are so precious.

What if we put in a free indoor playground at the school? At the office? At the bank? Literally anywhere? Is anywhere OK? Honestly asking

@PedsAllergyDoc I have a kid with a fish allergy. An educator once told me “It’s not like it’s a nut allergy.” (Yes, same reaction…) This is great news!

So, question: where are families supposed to get their under 5s vaccinated for Covid-19 in Toronto? No pharmacies are offering doses for this age group, many (most?) family doctors clinics also not carrying under 5s & public health clinics have shuttered. Is there even a plan??

@SabiVM I called 15 pharmacies and drove to 3 different ones to get 3 of us boosted on Friday. Called public health and they told me to check every pharmacy. Ended up getting a booster for my 4yo at Morelli’s at Longo’s. (6yo at Shoppers, adult dose for me at an independent pharmacy.)

This is a ready-to-go, major exhibit for any public space. Would be perfect for children's museum. Interested? DM me. I will only pass along very serious interest, so please tell me about your org/space/ability to cover shipping and install.

You guys. My wife's uncle is a major model train buff. He built a 2000sqft train layout over decades and now he wants to retire from the hobby and just give the whole thing away for FREE. He asked me if I knew anyone...I want to help!

@DrKarenWalker @Kidsdoc1Rick @ShopprsDrugMart @ONgov My kids are actually awesome at getting shots and have never cried during an immunization ever. The last time they got a shot the pharmacist said he was going home to tell his wife.
