@7LayerMagik @Jabaluck You would have to look and see what percentage of papers from an NIH/NSF funded projects are behind a paywall. Many projects are funded by institutional or foundation money and thus don’t meet those requirements for open access.

@meg6684 @Jabaluck Yeah but there are still a ton that aren't right? It should be required that all tax payer funded research is accessible to the public (unless it's national security related obviously)

RE: reforming NIH funding, my view is -- keep total $ the same or increase it, but: a) Do fast review (<1 month) based on 2 page applications & email exchanges for clarifying questions b) Give $ directly to investigators with broad discretion aside from "don't pocket it"
Jason Abaluck@Jabaluck

The best study I know estimates that each dollar of NIH spending generates $1.40-$2.80 in value counting *only the private return from drugs*, ignoring consumer surplus, med devices, public health, behavioral science, etc...

All articles published via government funding should be required to be open source. It's crazy that tax payers cant get access to this stuff for free. AI should have access as well since that'll be the best way for the public to learn about the cutting edge areas of science. @VPrasadMDMPH

@ambaln Are you including patients with an open PDA in the diagnosis of PH? How does that change your results since that means higher mPAP but isn’t actually PAH that would require treatment?

@blondemedSJW For pediatrics it is essentially to comment on cuteness or adorableness, and to know names of their pet and siblings and what is their favorite color. And what kind of ninja or unicorn or something else are they…

Why do old doctors always put in their notes “Ms Smith is a 50 yo pleasant female” like do I really need to know if someone is pleasant?
