A 21-year-old man from Long Island has made medical history as the first person in New York State to be cured of sickle cell disease. Sickle cell disease is a painful genetic disorder in which red blood cells become rigid, crescent-shaped, and prone to clumping. These deformed cells block blood vessels, triggering intense pain crises, organ damage, strokes, and a significantly reduced life expectancy. The condition affects approximately 100,000 people in the United States. The breakthrough treatment, called Lyfgenia (lovotibeglogene autotemcel), is a one-time gene therapy developed by bluebird bio. The process begins by collecting the patient’s own bone marrow stem cells. In the laboratory, scientists use a lentiviral vector to insert a functional gene that enables the production of healthy hemoglobin. After the patient undergoes chemotherapy to eliminate the faulty cells, the genetically modified stem cells are infused back into the body. Once engrafted, these corrected cells start producing normal, flexible red blood cells that flow smoothly through blood vessels without causing blockages. For Sebastien Beauzile, who had lived with severe sickle cell disease for over two decades, the results were transformative. Chronic pain that had defined much of his life vanished, and his blood parameters normalized. Doctors now consider him cured. While the therapy is complex, requires intensive preparation, and remains extremely expensive, it represents a major shift in how sickle cell disease is approached — moving from lifelong symptom management to a potential one-time curative solution. As more patients gain access, Lyfgenia and similar gene therapies could offer hope for a future where sickle cell is no longer a lifelong burden. This milestone at Cohen Children’s Medical Center marks an important step forward in genetic medicine and personalized cures.

Four survivors were responsible for going public back in 2018 by sharing their stories with the Miami Herald. They were courageous. The victims spoke out about how they were horribly abused -- not only by Epstein -- but by the criminal justice system and the prosecutors whose duty was to protect them. Instead, the victims were harassed and followed and threatened while Epstein got the deal of a lifetime. That failure to prosecute Epstein in 2008 led to hundreds and perhaps thousands of other women and girls being sexually abused. Epstein was still abusing women and girls right up until the time he was arrested in 2019 -- seven months after the Herald published its series. He was arrested because of those four women. This is their story, not just mine. It's also important to remember that not everyone knows the history of this case or the gravity of Epstein's crimes. Perhaps this will help provide insight so that the public will demand more transparency and accountability (including arrests) and that victims be listened to and treated fairly by the Justice System.

not to sound too woke but this has no business getting a limited series before any justice AT ALL is served. nearly all of the people involved in the files are free & out and about. ts isn’t entertainment it’s horrifying. this is fucking weird.

For many highly intelligent individuals, the source of their unfulfilment often lies in the fact that, while they work hard, mass and quantity do not necessarily equate to cognitive difficulty or true challenge. There is a distinct lack of qualitative cognitive friction - the kind that stimulates true intellectual engagement. Chronic under-stimulation - or the unmet need for intellectual intensity - is a modern-day affliction. It often manifests as apathy, and can even lead to a kind of psychological "fatigue" borne not from overuse, but from gross underutilisation. What is frequently misdiagnosed as "burnout" is, in truth, boredom. Violent cerebral hunger is real - and many are famished. What they truly crave, almost carnally, is the opportunity to solve problems of substantial, meaty complexity - the kind that makes the brain ache, viscerally, in a satisfyingly pleasurable way. It's a strain that originates in the prefrontal cortex, felt as a kind of euphoric tension - that tantalising sweet spot between exertion and insight, often reached only under conditions of extreme uncertainty.

I think the hardest part of the current political climate is realizing how many people are actually just evil. Not misinformed or uneducated... just openly and happily enjoying other people's suffering.

Sometimes I forget that we live on a planet where sea otters wrap themselves in kelp so they don’t drift out to sea while they sleep. Where frogs follow elephants in the jungle to lay eggs in their footprints. Where whales lift their newborns to the surface for a breath of air.

Persis had one job left. Get justice for her father Jayaraj and her brother Bennix. Both beaten to death inside a Tamil Nadu police station in June 2020. For keeping a mobile shop open 45 minutes past curfew. For 6 years she fought. She shielded her mother from the full details of what happened inside those walls. When her mother finally heard everything in court last week she broke down. Today Persis got dressed. Went to court. Sat through the hearing. Came home with 10 more days to wait. She has not forgotten a single day of the last 2191. April 9. She will be back in court. She always is.

I am so jealous of everyone who is healthy and without pain and can simply live life. I am basically still mostly locked in, barely able to read, not able to lift, and seeing all the things people are up to and have been up to the last months, makes me sad and resentful on top of the health issue. I am genuinely trying to be happy for everyone, but it’s so unfair and the uncertainty whether I’ll ever get the chance to do any of this is unbearable.

The doctor in Hawaii who tried to throw his wife off a cliff is on trial right now. His wife testified he was never physically violent before that incident. You know what’s the best clue that someone will go on to try to ki!! their partner? They’re controlling. Not that they’re physically violent. It’s that they’re controlling.

I'm unlearning this capitalist conditioning as I enter my 36th year Tired of the treadmill. More of anything. More of everything It's hard. But this intrinsic validation lasts longer Documenting this moment for the next time I begin pushing/pressuring myself for no real reason

The older I get, the more I see why my parents were always cleaning and resting... I left a retreat early this weekend. Came home, and been cleaning, organizing, spending time with Daisy🦮 I don't regret my decision. This has been far more healing than the retreat would've been

CHOPPED INTO PIECES BUT A GOLD DIGGER??!! Ravindar, a technician in the Indian Navy, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh was in a relationship with Mounika for over three years. But instead of marrying Mounika as promised, he married another woman, basically for a higher dowry. Now his wife is pregnant and she went to her parental home for her delivery. Mounika who was heartbroken started pressuring Ravindar to marry her. So Ravindar called her home killed her, dismembered her body into, took half her body in a gunny bag and burnt half her body near Dharapalem. The other half of Mounika - he chopped her up, packed her and stored her in the fridge. The accused Ravindar’s native place is Palakonda, Srikakulam district. I can see Mounika being made to sound like a gold digger in the news stories already. Half her body is burnt and the other half is chopped into piece and left in the murderer Ravindar’s fridge. She is being made the devil who pestered Ravindar for money 🙏🏽 And I wish girls become smarter to not fall for assholes and when they figure out it is an abusive relationship - they should just walk out.
