@lonestarfriar i dunno, I feel if I were at the game next to her she'd make me want to leave. I get yelling now and then but every 15 seconds is ruining the experience for everyone around you. that's my "get off my lawn" take.

Unpopular opinion: that lady at the game was fine last night. Sure she was obnoxious but she was just enjoying seeing her team and it’s more of a field mic issue than anything else.

@SergioMQuintero @kylestelter78 is he really a late bloomer? Padres signed him when he was like 17. I think he doesn't fit the mold of a typical Preller player in that he only plays OF. He's a big guy and if he's learning to tap into that power, he may be too good to keep off the roster.

Maybe no player had more to gain or lose from his production in Spring Training for the #Padres than Tirso Ornelas, he’s definitely off to great start as a statement to either get LF or DH playing time.

@AmoreSports @tylerahawk dodgers aren't managing these guys though. They get thrown in the deep end, get told to max effort pitchers and if the UCL goes it goes, next man up.

@tylerahawk I will tell you ONE thing -- It's not the Dodgers system that ruins their arms (not all pitchers began with LAD), the arms are ruined by Little League, Fall League, Travel Ball, high school, and college baseball managers that let these kids throw all kinds of junk at a young age.

@MatthewHulet @PadreFanDan I understand being smarter with payroll but they can't just sit on their hands, the offseason is halfway over and they've done nothing. saving on player payroll won't mean a lot if the on-field product suffers.

@PadreFanDan That’s a lot when we paid so much in CBT taxes in 23… sad yall don’t realize that they are trying to be smarter with the money spent and we have too many bad contracts not allowing flexibility anymore

14 million That's it. That's all that got in the way. That's what Matt Seidler would not allow AJ Preller to spend by taking on Straw. The Seidler swindler brothers don't deserve another dime from Padres fans.

@AvgJoe08 @PadresFanTakes I like Salas but i don't think an 18 year old catcher who's hitting .206 in High-A has a chance to even hit .100 in MLB. I don't know what makes you think he's ready. That's not a knock on him, he's 18.

There’s a reason Ethan Salas was catching our top arms in bullpens last year. And there’s a reason he’s the one catching Darvish & Sasaki at the work out. Idk why fans are dismissing that he is the teams hopeful starting catcher.

@GarysheffieldJr @bwine76 Take Pete Alonso whose market value is ~$30m/yr. What is the market for 3-4 WAR 1B?? If I'm looking to fill that need I'd rather trade for a better player like Vlad Jr.

MLB free agency is absolute cheeks. It’s January 16th and some of the game’s best available are just unemployed with no timetable it’ll just be some random tweet after a refresh. Free agency should be electric.

@PadresFanTakes @mickeykoke Nah, there are a number of experienced catchers like Elias Diaz that are still out there and he meshed well here. I'm usually ok with aggressive promotions but Salas getting pushed to MLB this season is too extreme.

@mickeykoke They don’t want to block Ethan Salas path. Campy sucks. Sullivan is a back up at best. Maldonado is pretty much insurance if Salas has a terrible spring and isn’t ready to go. Genuinely think Salas is the plan. For right or wrong.

@TatisMVPszn i just think teams are trying to get the best deal for themselves primarily. Most GMs don't have enough job security to have any other priority.

Random and likely a stupid take, but would NL teams hold a bias towards helping the Padres over Dodgers since the Dodgers getting Sasaki only makes the NL harder to win? The team giving the money has almost all the leverage already but I wonder if they would demand more from LA.
Mark Feinsand@Feinsand

According to sources, both the Dodgers and Padres have been calling teams with regard to trading for international bonus pool money with the hopes of bulking up the amount they can offer Roki Sasaki. @ByJackHarris was first to report the Dodgers’ interest in adding to their pool.

@sdpadfan @JimRussellSD you can't seriously be implying that Padres have been unfair with arbitration negotiations. One player in 10 years hasn't agreed to terms. Padres have been more than fair relative to the rest of the league.

@thisisframos @BaseUnstitched you can't look at the recent history of Padres with arbitration and seriously levy an accusation that they're "cheaping out." They've been extremely player friendly over the past 10 years.

@BaseUnstitched this is the first arbitration hearing Padres have had in AJ Preller tenure, so he's been very fair to players overall. I get King's side of this but they're going off of 2 arbitration figures when he was a reliever and he's getting a good bump in compensation.

The Padres ownership is in a bit of disarray currently and fighting over this money with Michael King could lose them one of the better Starting Pitchers over the next 4-5 years. @BaseUnstitched What the Padres filed ($7.3m) is almost certainly lower than what they offered him in initial negotiations. The lower figure is an incentive to get something done before the hearing, because the team wins these more often than not.

So we know how good Michael King is, let's talk arbitration. These were both sides submissions: Michael King: $8.8MM SD Padres: $7.325MM This is very similar to the Corbin Burnes scenario from 2023, where King is entering his "walk year" and the team he's with is destroying their chances of an extension with him.

@BajaBlessed22 @PrellersBurner I think they're looking at Eguy as a real possibility. They've already experimented with OF in the minors so think he gets a shot in ST.

Hot Take: Brandon Lockridge will be Padres Opening Day LF. I don’t hate it. He can bat 9th & reset the order, get bags. He’s hit over .300 fwiw last 2 years in AAA so hopefully that translates to .275+ hitter in MLB — which I’d be ok with. Can compete w/ Tirso in camp/platoon.
