After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

@Drodro77 @SawyerMerritt This ^ immediately thought of this. Very minimal to no savings at all. With the ideal people being in the 24% tax bracket before phase out. 10k would be $2400 max savings in a year. But it’s moot because who the hell is paying 10k a year in car interest.

@SawyerMerritt I want to see the budget of someone making 100k and spending 10k in interest on a car loan. Either this is for people paying 20% interest on 50k cars or the government thinks it's normal for someone who makes 100k to have 200k$ in car loans.

Between Jan 1, 2025 and Dec 31, 2028, taxpayers may be allowed to deduct up to $10,000 in interest on personal vehicle loans, even if they don’t itemize deductions. This is a temporary tax benefit designed to make vehicle financing more affordable. I read the bill, so here are the simplified details: Loan Conditions: • Loan must begin after Dec 31, 2024. • Must be for the purchase of a personal-use vehicle. • Must be secured by a first lien (the lender has primary claim if you default). Vehicle Conditions: • Vehicle must be an applicable passenger vehicle: • Cars, SUVs, pickups, vans, motorcycles, ATVs, trailers, campers. • Must be assembled in the U.S.. What’s Not Eligible: • Fleet sales • Refinancing of a car already owned without a new purchase • Commercial vehicles not for personal use • Leases • Salvage or parts vehicles Limits on the Deduction: • Dollar Cap: • You can deduct up to $10,000 in qualifying interest per year. • Income-Based Phaseout: • The deduction starts phasing out if your Modified • Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) exceeds: $100,000 for individuals $200,000 for joint filers • Reduced by $200 for every $1,000 over the threshold. Refinancing Rules: • You can deduct interest on refinanced loans, but: • The new loan can’t be more than the original. • It must still be secured by the same vehicle. You Don’t Need to Itemize: • This deduction will be allowed “above the line”, meaning: • You can claim it even if you take the standard deduction. If this passes into law (it still needs to pass in the Senate), from 2025 to 2028, U.S. taxpayers will be able to deduct up to $10,000/year in interest on new personal-use car loans (meeting specific criteria), regardless of whether they itemize. But it phases out for higher incomes and only applies to U.S.-assembled vehicles.

On the IRS.gov website, the "log in" button was not in the top right on the navbar like it is on most websites. It was weirdly placed in the middle of the page below the fold. An IRS engineer explained that the *soonest* this change could get deployed is July 21st... 103 days from now. This engineer worked with the DOGE team to delete the red tape and accomplished the task in 71 minutes. See before/after pictures below. There are great people at the IRS, who are simply being strangled by bureaucracy.
