My take on a potential Ja Morant trade today: I don’t think it makes much sense right now. You’d be moving a true franchise-level player and former All-Star for pennies on the dollar. Yes — people are exhausted by the saga, the off-court noise, the missed games, and the gap between expectations and reality. But when he’s healthy, Ja is still a winning player — and absolutely worth real draft capital. 1. If you’re rebuilding, there’s no urgency to sell. You’re not taking on major contracts anyway. So what’s the rush? Holding Ja until a real market develops — this summer or at next year’s deadline — is far more logical than forcing a discounted deal. 2. Talent still wins in this league. The truth is, Memphis simply hasn’t matched the pure talent level of the last five champions. A lot of the expectations were always unfair. See what this draft brings, use the ~$28M TPE and the new cap flexibility to add real pieces, and give it one more legitimate run. 3. Has it really been so bad that a salary dump is justified? Dumping Ja for almost nothing — especially when you now own one of the biggest draft war chests in the league — just doesn’t add up. The talent is still elite, and outside of injuries, his on-court impact has been far too valuable to move for minimal return. Which side are you on right now — cash out or hold and retool?

Another thought: The Grizzlies traded two players (Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson) who lived up to every expectation because a third player (Ja Morant) came up short. Morant's failures -- physical and otherwise -- are the primary reason the franchise has to start again.
