The Agni-5 MIRV missile test puts India in a group of 5: the U.S., Russia, China, France, and the UK.
Here's why MIRV technology changes everything:
One missile, multiple warheads, each one independently targeted.
Enemy air defense systems are built to intercept a single incoming threat, MIRV saturates them. You can't shoot down what you can't track fast enough.
The Agni-5 already reaches deep into China, parts of Russia, and large swaths of Europe at 5,500+ km range. Now pair that range with up to 12 independently targetable warheads per launch.
Pakistan now faces a neighbor whose nuclear deterrent just became exponentially harder to neutralize. And China's missile defense calculations got a lot more complicated overnight.

The UAE and India signed a Letter of Intent for a full Strategic Defense Partnership, covering: -Defense industrial collaboration -Special operations -Cyber -Counter-terrorism India made clear this doesn’t mean it will become militarily involved in Gulf conflicts. The partnership is structural, not operational. But the regional picture is taking shape: a Saudi-Pakistan-Turkey axis, anchored by the mutual defense pact Riyadh and Islamabad signed in September 2025. That deal contains a clause that treats aggression against either as aggression against both, similar to NATO’s Article 5. Qatar is also strengthening ties with Pakistan, notably. Advanced Agni missile with MIRV (Multiple Independently Targeted Re-Entry Vehicle) system was successfully tested from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha on 08th May 2026.
The missile was flight tested with Multiple payloads, targeted to different targets spatially distributed over a large geographical area in Indian Ocean Region.
