I've just ended a 12-year dream career in religion journalism, where I got to start/host a podcast, travel the world, deepen my faith, make lifelong friends, and follow my curiosity. What a gift! To all my friends/acquaintances I've made here...please come visit me Hawaiʻi!

Can someone explain why federal agents are now allowed to arrest unarmed, innocent American citizens while depriving them of their Constitutional rights? "The boy, who is Hispanic and African American, was held in a garage for five hours 'without informing his family, stating any charges, or allowing him to call an attorney,' the statement said. He is a U.S. citizen, as is his entire immediate family, the release said."

What makes me most angry is that there's nothing Americans "get" from destroying USAID in a way that directly results in the death of the world's poorest children. It barely even qualifies as an act of selfishness. We're doing it for nothing. The debt picture is completely unchanged. Being an insanely rich country that controls its own currency means we have a genuinely magical ability to save hundreds of thousands of lives around the world with a budgetary rounding error. And MAGA's like: "No thanks, it sounds woke."

Everyone should read this story about the devastating consequences of destroying USAID

@walla151 America is an unfathomably rich country! an ordinary US income can go extremely far towards solving whatever problems you think are most important to solve. I have a good friend who makes minimum wage and saves lives every year with her donations.

One thing I wish we could take from Mexico City are their camellóns - interior trails within the median of streets

I was explaining to my Ukrainian colleague the phrase ‘There’s no such thing as a free lunch’. She told me the equivalent in Ukrainian is ‘The only free cheese is in the mousetrap’ - which is so much better

For the 1st time since the mid-20th c, a major urban US transit network is going to be largely destroyed. Philadelphia’s SEPTA must cut 45% of service, NEXT MONTH. 45% is not “waste fraud and abuse.” It’s “would you like to keep your heart or your lungs?” Link in 1st reply.

The gleeful doxing of someone cheating in public is bad even if they are a CEO and even if they are a Coldplay fan. It's bad because this stuff is happening to random people on TikTok for such crimes as "sitting silently on a plane" or "being attractive" 404media.co/the-astronomer…

@natolambert I have to assume that many Latin Americans are being denied? It is actually a huge headache to have int'l events in Mexico because the majority of flights to Mexico come from the US...so people still end up needing US visas. Also, the CDMX airport has very limited int'l flights

It is a major policy failure that the US cannot accommodate top AI conferences due to visa issues.

When I first heard about the Dodgers Stadium gondola project, I was skeptical. But the sheer insanity of the opposition has won me over to it. It's privately financed! It'll unlock development around the stadium! It's being delayed by transparently frivolous CEQA litigation!

The most telling part of this case is when the Trump administration took the unprecedented step of releasing the full Kamala Harris interview. Once it was out, there was practically crickets—because it just wasn’t that bad. Networks edit interviews for clarity all the time. 60 Minutes does it. Fox News does it. But CBS and Paramount settled because they feared the administration would block their merger with Skydance. That’s not just political intimidation—it’s a big First Amendment issue. Using government power to both punish and coerce a settlement for first amendment protected speech is a direct threat to everyone’s free expression.

BREAKING Paramount has settled the lawsuit President Trump filed against it for the 60 Minutes interview of Kamala Harris. Paramount will pay $16 million in total including fees and expenses. The money, minus fees and expenses, will go to President Trump’s future presidential library.
