#FOOTBALL | We are working with @LFC and @ManUtd ahead of this Sunday’s (19 October) Premier League game at #Anfield ⚽ With 60,000 fans attending the game, we hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable time at what always proves to be a hard-fought fixture between two historic clubs. As ever, we have been working closely with both clubs for months to assist in planning for this event. We will use a variety of policing tactics including highly visible police patrols as well as less visible measures such as plain-clothes officers to ensure everyone enjoys the occasion safely. Chief Inspector Geoff Stewart said 🗣️ "As with any game, a comprehensive and appropriate policing operation has been put in place ahead of the match. “We have liaised with both clubs, as well as Liverpool City Council and transport partners to achieve this. “These plans take into account a range of factors including any previous incidents and fixtures between the clubs. “Sadly, this fixture – and others – have seen people arrested after tragedy chanting and gestures have been witnessed by fellow fans, stewards and police officers. “I want to make it very clear that football fans who chant about tragedies cause huge distress to those families and people directly affected. “The tragic loss of life is not a subject for tribal point scoring, and this behaviour has absolutely no place in football. Regardless of team affiliation, we will continue to work with clubs to take action to identify and bring any perpetrators to justice. Both clubs have made direct contact with their fans on this issue and we are grateful for their support. “The last time these two sides met at Anfield, Merseyside Police arrested eight people on suspicion of tragedy chanting and we will continue to take positive action to root out offenders. “I hope the arrests of these individuals sends a clear message and acts as a deterrent to others that you risk ending up in custody, and getting a criminal record and football banning order if you choose to engage in this despicable behaviour.” Chief Inspector Stewart added: “We have vast experience policing this fixture and there will be a robust policing operation in place on the day with officers ready to deal with any incidents that might arise. "It will be a busy operation, and we hope that fans attending the match will act as ambassadors for their clubs. “Please plan your journey and give yourself plenty of time to get to the stadium as early as possible. “Road closures will be in place, so we urge people to use public transport to ease traffic congestion. “As with any large event, we remind the public to be vigilant, trust their instincts and report any suspicious or unusual activity. “We hope everyone has a fantastic and memorable time and we encourage everyone to be behave responsibly so you can continue to support your club in future."

Please keep yourselves and other people safe during today's #LFC Victory Parade by not climbing buildings, structures, scaffolding or street furniture. The parade route covers 10 miles and there are plenty of safe vantage points to see the LFC bus. Hope everyone has a great day!

We're currently experiencing a high volume of people coming into the city centre to watch today's #LFC Victory Parade. As such a number of roads inc Brunswick St, Water St and James St are closed. People are advised to use Blundell St to access The Strand to avoid overcrowding.

We are continuing to urge people to not use flares or drones during today’s LFC victory parade. Yesterday, 17 people, including one police officer, were injured as a result of flares ahead of the final game at #Anfield. We also seized four drones. orlo.uk/qUqgh

Three men have been given football banning orders for hate crime offences committed at Liverpool football games. Matthew Guy, Ben Lloyd and Alan Maher have appeared in court for their respective offences, and each convicted for their crimes. More here orlo.uk/v6Yhv

A 29-yr-old man has been given a 3-year football banning order after admitting ‘tragedy chanting’ during a Liverpool game at Anfield. Tyler Coppin, from Colchester, was witnessed chanting towards Liverpool fans during the LFC v Chelsea match on 20 Oct orlo.uk/OHAfe

We can confirm Philip Joseph Dooley, 51, from Liverpool, sadly died after he was struck on a road in Bergamo in the early hours of today (Tues 17 Sep). Our officers have informed his next of kin & two men who witnessed the incident are assisting the Italian police investigation.

David Windsor, 40 years, of Warwick Avenue, Crosby, pleaded guilty and has been issued with a five-year banning football order. Further conditions were imposed at Sefton Magistrates which restricts his movement in relation to Liverpool matches.
