IBM engineers just showed how to run your own private AI infrastructure stack at home.
"Your data is your data, not your data is our business model."
Most people are racing to upload more of their life into AI tools they do not control.
A few are building private AI infrastructure on their own hardware.
Windows 11. WSL2. Docker. Ollama. Open WebUI. Local Llama and Granite models. Your own data. Your own machine.
No server farm. No cloud dependency. No handing sensitive documents to someone else's AI.
The best part is not the privacy.
It is understanding how AI actually works by building it yourself.
The gap between AI users and AI builders is widening fast.
This is one of the easiest ways to cross it.
Here is how to build your own privacy-preserving AI stack this weekend.

Best mid-range local LLM hardware :
DGX Spark vs Mac Studio M5 Max 128GB (upcoming)
Price: $4.7k (cheaper if used or OEM) vs ~$5k (est)
Decode: 273 GB/s vs 614 GB/s (Mac wins by 2.2x)
Prefill: DGX is ~2x faster + supports batching
RAM: 128GB unified on both
Power: 240W vs 200W (insanely efficient)
Thermals: Both quiet, but DGX runs hot
Perks: CUDA vs MLX optimization allows Deepseek V4 Flash on your desk.

The #1 question for Local LLMs: "What’s the cheapest hardware to run them?"
The answer: Used Mac Studio M1 Max (32GB–64GB).
64GB is the sweet spot.
Price: $1,000–$1,500 (depends on your country).
Performance: 60+ tok/s on Qwen3.6-35b-mlx-4bit.
Why it wins:
- Zero noise, zero heat.
- Crazy power efficiency.
- Easy setup.
- Built like a tank.
- Great resale value.
The absolute price-to-performance king.

Feeling emotional as I type this out.
1 year ago, I left my full-time web2 job. I was confident about doing so since I was earning a stable, comfortable salary from different projects in web3 - even though I wasn’t hired under any specific agency. I ate good. The kids ate good.
6 months ago, I started losing every project in my portfolio. Some died. Others said “we’ve minted, we’re building, we don’t need you anymore.”
The standard of living in Singapore is painfully high. With 2 kids in tow, I depleted all my savings in 2 months. I started liquidating everything. Took loans on every valuable NFT I had. Sold every token. Sold every irl asset I had, save for my house and laptop. I was crashing.
I applied for jobs in web3 thinking my past experience was enough - but it wasn’t.
Then I found @surgence_io… and I found hope again. I found my drive again. I felt motivated, more than ever - like I had smth worth fighting for, and even more to protect.
I’m incredibly grateful to still be in web3 - to have the freedom to work from anywhere and still be present for my kids. Being able to watch them grow and really spend time with them means everything to me.
It took all this for me to finally understand: when one door closes, another really does open.
To those who believed in me and supported me through the darkest times - thank you, from the bottom of my heart. You know who you are.
It’s my comeback arc now.

3 years in, and it’s sad to see it going down. It has been an incredible ride. Thank you @iWantYourNFT @poppynft @bbyaganft @_justnft for the memories and the special place y’all created in my NFT and web3 journey. Till we meet again 🥹

Sad to see that @Superful_xyz has sunsetted and I didn’t have the chance to thank the team for this incredible journey. What set out as a community-in-mind and a weekend project ended with such an impact in the NFT community. 🧵
