DEI is not a "buzzword", it's a literal business/hiring strategy that has a intentional and direct impact on the culture and priorities of a company.
When a company prioritizes identity hiring, the quality of the the product drops (including the features you mention), since by definition you are no longer choosing to hire the most qualified people.
You also alienable a chunk of your audience for no good reason, which further places financial pressure on the studio, since backlash will decrease revenue.

Playtesting is the magic ingredient to a great game. This is a big reason Halo games were so polished.
