Replies to this reflect the artificial binary of urban decay vs safe suburban boredom. These have been basically the only options in North America for generations, so people assume it is the default, that there are no other options. Suburbs are largely a function of white flight from the results of the civil rights act, but their tedium isn't necessary. There's no intrinsic reason they couldn't have been designed as exurban villages, with plenty of green space, walkable third spaces, and single family detached houses, all insulated from the wrong sort by a lack of public transit connections to the nearest urban abscess. This is a choice, the result of single-use zoning laws, which is among the many awful consequences of early twentieth-century progressives pursuing a rational scientific society. Americans are so mindfucked by progressivism that they cling to one progressive model (the zoned suburb) as refuge from another progressive model (the urban housing project), and never pause to consider that maybe progressivism is the problem.

people talk about moving to the suburbs to raise children but that seems to be an incredibly cruel thing to do to your children. to basically keep them shackled up in a distant fortress to ease your own anxieties.

@CSandbatch So what? Have you never been courted by a handler? Every spook needs a cutout. Leary was the real deal (see Flashbacks, 1983); deeply concerned with liberty. His interview in Playboy is a classic.

Thank goodness that Henry James didn't write his late novels during the now-fading age of Transgender Supremacy when many characters would have had not only a real pronoun but also a fake pronoun like "they."
Steve Sailer@Steve_Sailer

Late Henry James' prose tends to be an IQ test to keep track of the references of pronouns: He thought that she imagined that they knew that we felt that you wished ... So, The Wings of the Dove appeals most to the very smartest readers, who have a lot of influence in lit.

Wondered why I saw so little chatter about the new Larry David show, and found the answer: It's terrible!

It’s crazy how Arnold cheated on his wife with a house maid for years and got them both pregnant only a few days apart.
