@bannedforfun We are at the point where we just have to poinnt and laugh at them. Guilt and embarassment is probably the only thing that might break them out of this shit.

@TornadoNate A cheap harbor freight set is not a bad starting point just to have something to chase threads with. Beyond that, buy from mcmaster as you need them. Spiral point, 2 flute, uncoated will be fine for most diy situations. Get some single flute countersinks too and a tap guide.

Question: I now have enough machines that I really need to expand my ability to fix things myself. I have a need for a tap and die set. They range in price a LOT. I want a set that is has a thorough array of sizes but I'd rather not spend $700. Advice?

If you owned a drill factory that made #28 and 9/64” drills, would you sell the same exact tool with two different labels?

What I am taking from this entire situation is that the next time a black guy says "Cracker" to, near, or even vaguely around me; I should beat his ass, shoot, and/or stab him. Why? "Speech has consequences"

Respect is given where respect is due This black kid respectfully engages with ChudTheBuilder & Chud shows mutual respect back Until another black guy walks up & says “you should know better than to say that word” and then proceeds to call Chud a nigger Rules for thee

@VestigialAura @LawTubeSean @aburkhartlaw I need you to explain that completely nonsensical question using actual examples. Calling people the N-word and chimps is racist. Period. I'm sorry you feel the need to defend that with your whataboutism bullshit, but I'll give you a chance.

The Chud the Builder case is turning out to be a great way to sort the legal positivists from the legal realists. Sure, it's legally debatable whether words are legally sufficient provocation to make someone the first aggressor. But no guarantee the jury cares.

@Tyler_Plummer I just quoted some drawer pulls. Most times designers just reach out to a local machine shop for custom builds.

There aren’t any high end Household Fixture companies in the US… And only one high end Household appliance company which is Sub-Zero out of Wisconsin. There should be a new company that does high end metal fixturing and also appliances 😉

@muhasaba_needer I bootstrapped my shop, starting with a prototrak lathe. Everybody I knew with garage shops or larger started with a mill. They all had lathe work to offload to me.

@_baldtires I literally just delivered a thompson rod job on monday. If you are reducing the diameter by 1/2" you should be safely below the case hardening. Anyone with a lathe should be able to thread that. We would usually drill and tap the ends and locktight 4140 threaded studs in.

Anyone know where I can get some linear shafting like this but with two big fucking male threads on the end? stepped down so it's like a 1 1/2" thread?

There's so little money in manufacturing in the US, it's not worth the electricity to even turn the machines on. Just look around. Nearly every manufacturing account on here gets their money from the government. Sell-outs don't count.
synerGyFABRiCATiONS@synerGy_FAB

@muhasaba_needer you would have a brain aneurysm if you saw the fleet of machines the Case Tractor plant in Racine, Wi sent off to the scrap yard multiple cells of 550-600mm + 1000-1250mm pallet size Toyoda HMC’s with linear pallet pools dismantled and scrapped. Mori, Mazak, Okuma too
