Is this evidence of the viability of starting manufacturing businesses, or an indicator of the capital inefficiency and carelessness with which (most) American businesses spend money on suppliers? What will bring about a return to competition when endogenous shocks fail?

@DeltaClimbs It can be a bit of both. We desperately need a local manufacturing base. Not everything can be made overseas. Further, there's not enough raw talent and tooling for everyone to make their stuff internally. If you're a really wine and dine kind of joint, people will notice.

@DeltaClimbs Chinese places make most of their own equipment, even up to large scale. They have the advantage of the worlds catalog, but still, ain't nobody making their own stuff here. Top 0.5% behavior

It’s the first. There’s no way the labor that went into that thing would be valued less than a hundred grand. Likely much more. And it likely works great for the people that built it but would be hard to train a rando to use safely. Once you scale up it makes sense to spend money for something that will be reliable with less sophisticated operators.
