How does GOAT Network’s x402 implementation differ from Coinbase’s? - Anon x402 isn’t “Coinbase vs. GOAT”. It’s an open HTTP payment standard: a client pays per request, and the server verifies payment before serving. Coinbase helped operationalize x402 with spec work, SDKs, and a hosted facilitator that makes API paywalls easy to ship. GOAT Network uses the same x402 interface, but extends the design goal: cross-chain agent payments settling into a Bitcoin-secured environment, with agent-level identity via ERC-8004. If the posed AI macro path plays out, we need to solve how machine-to-machine finance works when humans are no longer the primary transacting actors. Payments need machine-native rails, and the key question is infrastructure. GOAT Network is that layer - Bitcoin-secured, verifiable, sovereign settlement for autonomous finance.

People are going to hand more and more money decisions to agents. Instead of you manually managing portfolios, juggling accounts, or researching every purchase, you set the rules and the agent just runs it: invests, rebalances, pays, buys, consolidates, or whatever else you’ve delegated. This is different from today’s robo-advisors who mostly follow a fixed playbook. A real “self-driving wallet” can react to changing conditions, find opportunities, and make constant tradeoffs without you needing to babysit it. GMPayer shows what agent-native payments look like in practice. By enabling x402-based, per-request payments, agents can transact, settle, and route value automatically, without accounts, subscriptions, or manual billing. This is a critical building block for real agent-to-agent economies.

"Agents don't need Bitcoin, any crypto works" - Anon This objection argues that the specific choice of layer 1 security is irrelevant - Ethereum, Solana, or any other cryptocurrency provides sufficient properties for agent money. Why insist on Bitcoin specifically? The response depends on the value at stake. For agents managing modest amounts or operating in low-stakes environments, Ethereum or Solana may suffice. Their tradeoffs - social coordination in Ethereum's case, higher performance with lower decentralization in Solana's - are acceptable when the cost of failure is limited. But as agents manage increasing value, the hardest possible guarantees become necessary. An agent managing millions or billions in assets cannot accept the risk that validators will coordinate to change rules, that network outages will halt operations, or that social consensus will override technically valid transactions. Bitcoin's monetary properties - absolute supply cap, most decentralized mining, greatest cumulative proof-of-work, resistance to protocol changes - are a qualitative difference in assurance. Bitcoin's consensus rules have remained stable for over a decade despite intense economic pressure to change them. No other cryptocurrency can claim this history. Therefore, not all crypto is equal.
