Minor League Ejections

Reid Hoover ejected @FrederickKeys batter Ike Irish for arguing his groundout to shortstop. The call was correct. You’re not at Auburn anymore Ike. As soon as you say the magic words to any professional umpire, that’ll earn you an early shower.

The benches cleared in last night’s game between @cchooks & @missionsmilb. No warnings or ejections were official as the game was at its conclusion. No further major problems this evening.

Umpires have always given pitchers an extended amount of time who were just the last out batting or running on the bases to avoid injury. It’s common courtesy and was for 100+ years when there was no DH in the NL. People just want to make a big deal about it cuz it’s Ohtani.

@balkwhisperer Exactly. Been the rule forever and a day, even from the old clock rules where they ran a soft clock that carried no penalties. This excerpt is from prior to the universal DH.

Paul Roemer ejected @GoStripers Rowdy Tellez for continuing to argue his strikeout. Tellez had challenged the pitch via ABS and it was upheld. Unfortunately the broadcast cuts the challenge out, so I’ve done my best to stitch together what footage we have.

This opinion might be in the minority, but I'm not quite sure I've ever understood the special rules for Shohei when it comes to timing Should catchers similarly get some relief on timing with gear coming on and off between innings?

@tangotiger You can see full ABS already. It was used extensively in the minors (and currently KBO). The vast majority of managers, coaches and players voted challenge as their preference.

@PhilsTailgate Why is this good news? Austin put up the eighth best ball-strike numbers out of the 87 qualified umpires last year.

It only took 10 games to get our first minor league umpire. The good news is that he likely won’t call any games behind home plate this series.

Justin Juska ejected @FisherCats manager John Tamargo for continuing to argue following a mound visit pitch timer violation and ball. Down 10-2 and 35 degrees in Manchester, not exactly a cheery day all-round.

@THE_REAL_CH3 @PalmerDesigns_ We’ve been roasting umpires for missing by less than the mean error for quite some time. Doesn’t this just shift the conversation back to ‘umpire’s fault’ on upheld calls?

@PalmerDesigns_ Any ball that ABS determines is in or out of the zone by less than the mean error in the system should not be overturned and left with the umpires original call as the system can not definitively state whether the ball was in or out of the zone

@letsgaymets @PlusEVAnalytics The FSL did at two points have a larger zone, but I don’t think @PlusEVAnalytics is saying this. He’s saying change the graphic so people don’t complain about ‘99.9% not a strike’ as fans are dumb and want to visually see the majority of the ball touching the zone for a strike.

@MiLBEjections @PlusEVAnalytics if i recall they started with a 20-inch zone in 2022 in the atlantic league i wanna say? then a 19-inch zone was tested in the FSL. It led to way too many strikes on pitches that feel like outside pitches, especially breaking balls away from the hitters.

@PlusEVAnalytics they tried a version of that in the minors it was not good enough for those players or fans

Nate Grant ejected @daytonatortugas pitching coach Jason Immekus (no video) following a mound visit pitch timer violation. Daytona went on to concede 13 earned runs, so I understand why Immekus wanted the early exit.

Patrick McMorris ejected @vancanadians batter Alexis Hernandez for continuing to argue his strikeout.

Gerritt Nelson ejected @nwanaturals batter Justin Johnson (off-camera) after he grounded out to end the inning. Replays indicate the call was correct. Box score listed the ej as HPU Justin Hilton, but this looks like magic words to Gerritt.
