We made it through the blizzard! Most of the UP saw 1-3+ feet of snow in 48 hours, combined with high winds. The Marquette NWS set a new 2-day record at 36.3″ of snow, breaking the 1997 record of 31.9″.
A big thank you to all the road crews and utility workers for your continued hard work!
Road crews are working to open up secondary roads. Some power outages remain, primarily in the Central UP. Restoration efforts are underway.
Conditions have improved, but blowing snow will continue to make travel difficult in some areas, so be sure to bring your winter emergency kit if you need to travel.

For those without power, remember to stay warm safely. Power outages and cold temperatures can make heating sources and generators dangerous if not used properly.
🔥 Keep heaters at least 3 feet from anything that can burn
🔥 Never use ovens, grills, or camp stoves to heat your home
🔥 Install working carbon monoxide detectors on every level
⚡ Generators must ALWAYS be used outdoors and away from doors, windows, and garages
⚡ Never run a generator inside a home or enclosed space
⚡ Turn generators off before refueling
Stay informed, check on neighbors, and use caution as winter weather continues across Michigan. Find more safety tips in the comments section.

Great rescue by the U.S. Coast Guard near Mackinac Island. A reminder that ice can quickly become dangerous during blizzard conditions, especially when visibility drops and you can’t see cracks, pressure ridges, or open water.

Good morning, Yoopers.
Day 2 of this blizzard! Travel is strongly discouraged again today. If you don’t absolutely need to go out, it’s best to stay home.
Road crews are working hard to keep main “M” roads and I-75 open, but that is proving difficult with blowing and drifting snow. Back roads are snowed in for the most part right now.
Blizzard conditions are forecasted to persist today for the Central and Eastern UP, while snowfall gradually lessens in the west. Winds will ramp up through the morning, with gusts near 50 mph possible across much of the UP. Along Lake Superior, gusts over 60 mph are possible.
Stay safe, stay warm, and check on neighbors if you can.

Please stay home and avoid unnecessary travel. If you must travel, carry winter emergency supplies, warm clothing, water, needed medications, and a charged cell phone with a charger.
M-28 from Kawbawgam Rd. in Harvey to W. Shore Rd. in Munising is still open. However, this area can see heavy blowing and drifting snow off Lake Superior, which could lead to a future temporary road closure. MSP, local law enforcement, and the Alger and Marquette County Road Commissions are monitoring conditions.

As this winter storm is hitting, heavy snow and strong winds may create whiteout conditions and make travel dangerous. Please avoid unnecessary travel over the next couple days if possible. If you must travel, carry winter emergency supplies.
