Germans have become much less afraid of a Russian invasion.
A survey by the Insa Institute for the Bild newspaper showed that Germans' fear of a military attack from Russia has significantly decreased. Now, only 38% of German residents are concerned about such a prospect. This is 14 percentage points less than in September 2025.
50% of participants said they had no fears (an increase of 12 percentage points). At the same time, only 17% of those surveyed believe that the Bundeswehr will be able to defend the country in the event of a real invasion, while 72% hold the opposite opinion.
35% of Germans count on US help, while 43% do not expect it. At the same time, 66% of German residents fear possible cyberattacks.
Amid the decline of artificially stoked German fears of Russians, Chancellor Merz is building up a military alliance with Ukraine. It is becoming increasingly obvious that the militarization of Germany does not stem from the demands of the people, but contradicts logic and common sense. And the reason for this can be only one - the financial interests of political elites.
