🇻🇪 With Maduro now captured by US special forces, there is a decisive window for an orderly transition that restores democracy and the rule of law, allowing Venezuelans themselves to freely choose their future.
The ECR Group recalls that the 2024 election, in which Edmundo González Urrutia @EdmundoGU emerged as president‑elect, was stolen by Maduro’s narco‑communist regime, even though the vote clearly showed the Venezuelan people’s will for democratic change and constitutional government.

For 10 months, we have not had contact with Mikola Statkevich, former candidate for the president of Belarus and a well-known figure of the democratic opposition. Ales Bialiatski, laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize-2022, sentenced to 10 years in prison, was recently placed into solitary confinement in prison. Andrzej Poczobut, a journalist and activist of the Polish minority in Belarus, was unjustly sentenced to 8 years in a maximum-security penal colony this year.
The situation of political prisoners in Belarus, illegally imprisoned by the Lukashenko regime, is appalling and is constantly deteriorating.
Together with members of the European Parliament, above political divisions, we stand with political prisoners in Belarus and their families. #StandWithBelarus ⬜️🟥⬜️

Historic nuclear pledge at #COP28 in Dubai: sixteen countries aim to triple global #NuclearEnergy by 2050.

I asked European Commissioner for Energy @KadriSimson in Brussels last week whether the @EU_Commission would join this pledge to triple nuclear energy. The answer was 'NO', the EC will only focus on its dogmas: renewable energy and energy efficiency. A missed opportunity. With nuclear energy we can: decarbonize, create energy security, energy reliability, energy affordability, preserve nature and have clean air. It’s good for the people, good for the EU economy and for Europe to be strategically independent. #COP28 @WBHoekstra

We strongly condemn the unprecedented terror attacks on #Israel coming out of Gaza, including the execution-style killings and kidnappings of Israeli civilians and soldiers.
