400+ legal claims and counting. The council’s mishandling of the job evaluation has prompted bin workers to take legal action, potentially adding millions more to the bill. 💷 Demand the Council take action and resume negotiations: actionnetwork.org/campaigns/birm…

#NoBanWithoutAPlan We tell @UKLabour - Hands off the North Sea. Jobs: We need investment in permanent, local jobs in industries like wind power manufacturing and operations, hydrogen, carbon capture and decommissioning. Conditions: North Sea workers must not be left behind. Transitioning North Sea workers need good union jobs with pay, pensions and other conditions that are commensurate with their current roles, as well as the provision of all necessary training. Security: Make Britain energy self-sufficient We need to work towards a self-sufficient energy system. No more profiteering, with global market chaos pushing up bills and threatening our future.

Lawbreaking!! We’ve said it from the start, @BhamCityCouncil are breaking the law to use illegal agency workers, and Birmingham tax-payers are footing the bill. The council spent more than £4.3m on agency staff between Apr to Dec 2024. This doubled during the same period in 2025, to more than £8.8m. theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/a…

🤯Gobsmacking! Privatised utilities have showered in profits, dividends and debt, while we've been showered in filth 💩 #Nationalise water and energy #PublicOwnership End #Privatisation
Feargal Sharkey@Feargal_Sharkey

The @FT is reporting that hapless, hopeless, incompetent Ofwat is about to let Thames Water off £123 million in fines. That Ofwat would be a very, very bad idea. You will want to think again.

The events at Orgreave were absolutely horrific and the role of @unitetheunion members, branches and regions in supporting the campaign for justice for Orgreave has been vital in securing the public inquiry. It must ensure it gets the answers and uncovers the truth of who was behind the attack on striking miners at #Orgreave. @orgreavejustice
Unite the union: join a union@unitetheunion

It has taken over 40 years but finally the inquiry into the 'Battle of Orgreave' is open. Striking miners were beaten and dragged through the legal system. Unite has proudly supported the incredible work of @orgreavejustice to make this inquiry happen. chroniclelive.co.uk/news/uk-news/b…

The closure of Grangemouth refinery was announced in 2023 when Claire Coutinho was the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero! She did nothing to save the refinery or protect our energy security. You couldn't make this up. It's incredibly brazen.
Claire Coutinho@ClaireCoutinho

Last year Britain lost a THIRD of its refineries. Why? A Carbon Tax on industry that Ed Miliband doubled. We won’t need any less petrol, diesel, jet fuel, ceramics or chemicals - we'll just rely more on foreign imports. We must axe the Carbon Tax and save British industry.

Two massive wins coming down the line with news of @uklabour nationalising British Steel & changes to procurement meaning British steel should be used in public contracts. This campaign has been hard fought and a lot of industrial damage has already been done - but these are steps in the right direction. #BritishSteel #SaveOurSteel

We were out in Quinton today, canvassing residents and local businesses to raise awareness about the bin strike. It’s clear that residents are fired up, and that energy is only strengthening our movement. This strike won’t end until Birmingham City Council puts forward a fair deal for all bin workers. Demand they do so today: actionnetwork.org/campaigns/birm…

Thanks to independent @samatquinton for meeting with us today in Quinton and for supporting the striking bin workers and helping us take the message to residents. It’s long past time for this @UKLabour council to get back round the table and negotiate with Unite to find a fair resolution to this strike.

📊Today’s new energy price cap means bills will go down. Briefly. But the war in Iran means they will go back up in July and energy companies expect to put them up again in October. 💰Last year Unite published research showing energy companies made £30bn profits in 2024. That's around £500 per household, and a quarter of business energy bills! So never mind new CEOs at OFGEM or ever-changing price caps, Unite has a solution to rocketing energy prices: 📣 Nationalise the energy companies

If you were to ask residents of Birmingham to define irony, they might be hard pressed to come up with a better definition than this @UKLabour billboard spotted in Brum yesterday. Trust has been destroyed after years of stellar financial mismanagement and waste, and compounding that by attacking bin workers through coerced £8,000 wage cuts is not the way to rebuild that trust. Residents deserve better, and it will take more than a billboard for Labour to convince voters that they are on their side. Getting back in the room to negotiate a fair settlement with the bin workers would be a good place to start.
