Thank you St Mungos. I am honoured to be taking on this important role. Can't wait to get started, see the work on the ground & understand the underlying issues that cause homelessness. I want us to be the best we can possibly be; and to collaborate w/ others for wider change

Forced labour is a human rights outrage affecting 28m people around the world. It also involves economic exploitation at an industrial scale - $10,000 per victim. And it is an economic disaster at national level in foegone taxes. It is in all our interests to act. @theresa_may
International Labour Organization@ilo

📢JUST LAUNCHED! New @ilo report says that annual profits from forced labour reach a staggering $236 billion, highlighting the alarming scale of exploitation in the global economy. ⛔ Time to #EndForcedLabour ow.ly/6O1C50QWnbH

....this makes me want to cry. Very good, well argued, passionate interview this morning on @BBCr4today at 7.50 with @FilippoGrandi @UNHCRUK We have to tackle these challenges together strategically, not tactically with token initiatives like Rwanda and walls
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency@Refugees

Last year, ~4500 Rohingya refugees embarked on deadly boat journeys across the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Not all made it to their destination. Swift action by regional coastal authorities is key to prevent future tragedies. ℹ️ bit.ly/4b7ckqY

Good article from @sarahvibert82. Agree we are headed in the right direction-but we must make it easier for government to work with us on the big issues of the day. New platforms for partnerships on climate, homelessness, food security, migration etc. More impact, more influence
Civil Society@CivilSocietyUK

“It feels like the relationship between the sector and Labour is headed in the right direction [...] Having five missions clearly set out gives the voluntary sector a framework in which to meaningfully engage and share our expertise” - @sarahvibert82 civilsociety.co.uk/voices/sarah-v…

Great to join #samuelkasumo to discuss transformational civil society leadership by collaborating like we mean it - leave your organisational baggage at the door; focus on shared outcomes; get to know each other; take the long term view. More impact, more influence
Mark Russell OBE@markrusselluk

A privilege to join a discussion in Parliament about the transformational leadership needed to change our society. Grateful to Samuel Kasumu for convening us and to @jonathaneig sharing wisdom from Martin Luther King’s life. @BellRibeiroAddy @MichaelAdamson5 @Ttall @JavedKhanCEO

Charities are best placed to understand the needs and challenges of the people they serve. Our on-the-ground insight and experience is a vital contribution, so it's great to hear @ThangamMP acknowledge that governments must listen to civil society. #PBEevents @UKLabour

Great to hear @keir_starmer talk with passion about how we d'lop services focused on people and their individual needs and invest in #prevention using the example of flooding. How do we prevent it in the first place & help people recover with or w/o insurance? #pbeevents

This is the neutral, humanitarian perspective of @ICRC Decision makers need to listen and act to protect civilians and humanitarian workers 👇
Mirjana Spoljaric (Archive)@ICRCPresident

I have arrived in Gaza, where people’s suffering is intolerable. I repeat our urgent call for civilians to be protected in line with the laws of war and for aid to enter unimpeded. The hostages must be released and @ICRC allowed to safely visit them. icrc.org/en/document/is…

Important piece showing the insidious impact of climate change on livelihoods leading to population movement, less secure income and increased risk of slavery & trafficking. Need to invest to prevent this human tragedy in the first place.
Anti-Slavery International@Anti_Slavery

Today marks the start of #COP28 Ahead of the meetings, we've looked at the links between climate-induced migration and risks of modern slavery in Ghana, and where decision-makers are failing to address these issues👇 antislavery.org/latest/the-soc… #UNFCCC #ClimateChange

Today PRCS teams delivered 21 trucks 🚚 filled with aid into #Gaza City and the northern areas. 📍Since the truce began, they’ve successfully distributed 254 aid trucks, providing crucial essentials like food, water, baby formula, and blankets to thousands in need. 🫶 PRCS is committed to delivering the largest number possible of humanitarian aid to North #Gaza, which had not received any aid prior to the humanitarian pause agreement. #Humantarians 🫶 #HumantarianAid

Humanitarians need new approaches to deal with the long emergency of accelerating climate risks. China is and will be a key actor. Thank you, @HSlim_Oxford, for sharing thoughts at the 3rd Soochow International Forum last week. @ODzhumaeva @jagan_chapagain

China, climate action and humanitarian aid. Some thoughts from the 3rd Soochow International Humanitarian Forum. Especially the need to keep a “green channel” open for climate cooperation and humanitarian diplomacy 👇 @AJMatheou
