Things got a little tense on the 'Inside the NBA set when Draymond took a shot at Chuck's final years in Houston 😬

@soccerreform European soccer is dominated by a few club in each league and everyone else has no shot of winning. Show me one league the as many differnt champions as any closed American league? You can’t because teams from the bottom stay on the bottom and results prove this.

*ignoring the fact that only a handful of MLS teams can win D1 - while hundreds of other US clubs aren’t even permitted to compete for that honor - makes all pronouncements about competition pretty loopy. MLS is defined by anticompetitive behavior, not competitive behavior. #ProRelForUSA
Michael DiStazio@MichaelDistazio

@soccerreform Great point since the EPL was formed in 1992 a total of 7 differnt teams have won the league. Since that date 15 MLS teams have won titles, 16 NHL, 16 NFL, 16 MLB and 14 NBA teams. Closed league with shared renevue are more competitive. Prove me wrong.

There are many ways for clubs to win in an open system. That’s borne out by the fact that the vast majority of the EPL have won silverware of some kind over the last 30 years, while half of MLS hasn’t won anything. You need Americans to be too stupid to grasp anything but a myopic league trophy in order to justify the MLS cartel. That’s your cultural prerogative. Fortunately, they’re smarter than that. #ProRelForUSA
Duck Tragic@goducksmendoza

@soccerreform Let’s compare MLS with the major Euro leagues when it comes to diversity among champions. PSG and Lille in Ligue 1, Bayern Munich in Bundesliga. Any of the leagues. ITS A DIFFERENT CULTURE. You are so disingenuous.

@frenchjraff The USA has a stranglehold on all the most successful sport leagues in the world and they all use the closed system. MLS is already a top 10-13 league after only 35 years when other leagues have been around a 100 years, they will a top 5 league in 25 years, the system works.

There isn't even 1 example in the world of sport where promotion and relegation hasn't worked. It literally has a 100% success rate, but somehow America will be the 1 place it doesn't work #ProRelForUSA
Duck Tragic@goducksmendoza

@frenchjraff @Teaks20 @soccerreform So, again, you are asking everyone to ignore every difference in the sporting landscape between the US and England and just accept on faith that changing one thing would make Americans obsessed with minor league soccer.

@TimBrando @awfulannouncing @slmandel @finebaum The SEC fans prefer a smaller playoff since they get over represented in the field and have a better chance to win. More teams requires winning it on the field and limits the influence of ESPN in promoting and selecting the teams in the field.

Foolish statement by another media member that fails to understand the stakes in place for a sport that (yes)makes a lotta money but still hemorrhages far more 🏦 in the end. He’s not alone, however my friend @Finebaum spins this same yarn daily for a couple of key reasons. 1)To deliver content to the @SEC sycophants that devour their opportunities to have a voice, and it works for Paul and the Southern fans brilliantly. 2)To maintain the “it just means more” narrative the SEC cornered the market on and allows those bloggers & writers the chance to drive home the propaganda the good ole boy network that’s always run CFB to thrive! Here’s the problem, despite the power @GregSankey wields the circumstances CFB faces now means it’s gonna take more. Lots MORE. To that end in time his Presidents & Chancellors are gonna recognize expansion beyond 12 to 16 and yes even 24 is what makes what now looks unsustainable! Sustainable. Period end of story. Each time they tell us we’ll ruin the regular season, the opposite is TRUE!

"I think that college football should be run by people who like college football. And every decision, every idea I've seen about playoff expansion seems like it's come from people who don't like college football, don't know why we like it... A 24-team playoff would be a disgrace." - Kevin Clark

@MichaelDistazio @chrisorzy I disagree about the “either D1 or not“. I played against so many guys who rode the bench in rec ball and played D1 baseball and getting drafted because they work their ass off and other guys who are four year varsity players we never played pass high school.

@chrisorzy Travel 25 years ago was the all stars amongst all stars. Travel today is anyone with a check book. It’s not the same and it isn’t more competitive than Rec of the past. It’s unfortunately ruined baseball. They cram 6 games into 5 hours. How many reps are you getting anyway?

Tony Hawk reveals turning down $500,000 from Activision was the best financial decision of his life "When they were close to launching the game, they started to sense that there was buzz about it. It was already getting good reviews from previews and they felt this surge of interest" "They offered me a buyout of future royalties right before the game launched. They offered me half a million dollars. They said you get that right now and then no money going forward" "No one had ever spoken those types of numbers to me before, but I felt like I was in a pretty good place. I was doing well in other ways. I was still skating a lot, doing events, I had good endorsements, and I thought I'm gonna take a risk and I don't need that money right now"

With MLS at a crossroads, history has shown that @USL_HQ is ready to take the mantle from MLS who took it from NASL. For me the question is not if but when a MLS team requests to join the new USL model of promotion and relegation #ProRelForUSA

A formal offer has been submitted to the MLS regarding relocating the Vancouver Whitecaps to Las Vegas. This is how American owners perceive football Clubs over there - just a franchise.

@JoshStraughan1 Youth sports is the land of dreams, I coach football and the amount of times I’ve heard parents mention D1 potential is unreal. Most people have never seen a true prospect so they live in fantasyland about their kids.

@michael54625373 @PNWGary It’s actually how American leagues got super wealthy and cornered most of the top talent in other sports. MLS in 20-25 year will be one of the top 3 leagues in the world it’s already about the pass Ligue 1 in revenue.

If MLS wants a team in Vegas so bad they should open an expansion slot. I don’t care if the whitecaps stay in the league or not, but franchise relocation is something North American sports gets unequivocally wrong

Ive been to probably close to 100 UFC events since '06. Maybe 15 as a fan and 80 as a media member. Ive *never* seen anything like this. I knew this company was fledgling. You could feel it. No one I grew up with was watching anymore. But this? This surprises even me. Good.

Dana White can't sell tickets to UFC 328 despite a blockbuster card bc they hitched their entire wagon to Trump who then destroyed the economy. All while they continue to outprice their actual fans. Lowest priced ticket is about $350

@JaseOfBase513 MLS is doing fine the real reason no one wants to buy the team is real estate, stadiums and the development around them are major profit driver. See the Chicago Fire building a stadium/ real estate development and what they are currently building.

We've heard that #MLS is going to fail for 30 years but the league keeps thriving. At some point, people are going to have to realize that the league is successful and they are wrong. I don't want #VWFC to move but this is far from an idictment on the league's sustainability.
🆒 Chris Parry@ChrisParry

As someone involved in the purchase of two European football clubs, I can tell you this: If nobody is interested in buying Whitecaps, the top team in the MLS, who outdraw most teams and win championships, that's an UGLY indictment on the sustainability of the league, not the city

The conversations regarding closed franchise leagues vs merit leagues with promotion-relegation in the USA are ongoing. FIFA clearly promotes open league structures. A club exists on its own-earns its place competitively. A franchise exists because a league grants it a spot $$.
