New paper led by @MeganPolden from our evaluation of menu calorie labelling requirements in England. Big increase in outlets providing any labelling - from 21% pre to 80% post. But only 15% of outlets met all best practice criteria. bmjopen.bmj.com/content/14/4/e…

Paper by @KateGarrott & colleagues @MRC_Epid deserves attention. Particularly when concerned about equity, degree to which people must understand intervention or change behavior is important for potential barriers. Framework helps examine demands interventions place on people.

@Pete_Scarbs Yes I agree, and often a challenge in natural experiment to get a good control.

@Pete_Scarbs Another concern that often gets voiced about VAR is the lack of consistency. VAR intervention is inconsistently applied (eg some players get picked up for violent contact and then Bruno G from Newcastle gets nothing for a clear elbow to head vs ARS).

@Pete_Scarbs Is it worth thinking about some of the FA and Carabao cup games that do not have VAR? Could restrict to just premier league teams playing each other in earlier rounds. Not sure how big a sample you’d need to detect differences in your outcomes.

This is an extraordinary interview by @jamieoliver He shows a deep understanding of the challenges of securing child health, tackling socio-economic inequalities and ensuring food systems deliver for the people, which puts the government to shame with their duplicity and cruelty

@martinwhite33 So disappointing and shockingly short sighted of this new government. A sustainable NHS style health care system is not possible with zero prevention strategies and obesity/associated NCDs rates as they are in the UK

We built a longitudinal nutritional database of food sold by large chain restaurants in the UK using automated Python programs (major time saver, compared to hand transcribing⏱). It can be used for relevant policy evaluations and potentially improve nutrient intake estimation.

Congrats to @MichaelEssman10 on his new study of media reactions to South Africa's sugary drinks tax. It's not surprising that most negative statements about the tax were made by the food industry, with high support from scientists & the government. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33676468/
