“Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education.” On this day, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His work reminds us of the importance of education for all and service to others.

Mission Monday: Preparing Educators to Serve North Carolina @UNC is relaunching its undergraduate elementary education degree, part of @UNCSchoolofEd, reaffirming Carolina’s mission to serve the people of North Carolina through public education. Launching in Fall 2026, the redesigned program prepares future teachers with hands-on classroom experience, evidence-based instruction, and dual licensure in elementary education plus either special education or English as a second language—skills that directly reflect the needs of today’s classrooms. By combining rigorous academics, immersive fieldwork, and a focus on access and innovation, Carolina is preparing the next generation of educators to make an immediate impact in schools across the state.
