She lost everything in a fire. A Red Cross volunteer stood with her. “It was like free therapy.” Sometimes, what people need most isn’t money. It’s someone who shows up. This National Volunteer Month, thank you to those who do. Join us: RedCross.org/Volunteer

Millones de pesos de México terminan en manos de la dictadura cubana. Contratos por más de 227 millones de pesos lo documentan. La investigación es de @latinus_us.

Nexstar and Tegna’s merger was just given a special green light by Trump’s FCC. Never heard of these companies? Well, they could soon control your local news stations. Watch.

Worldwide Caution: The Department of State advises Americans worldwide, and especially in the Middle East, to exercise increased caution.  Americans abroad should follow the guidance in security alerts issued by the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.  Periodic airspace closures may cause travel disruptions.  U.S. diplomatic facilities, including outside the Middle East, have been targeted.  Groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or locations associated with the United States and/or Americans throughout the world.  Enroll at step.state.gov to receive the latest security alerts and follow the “U.S. Department of State - Security Updates for U.S. Citizens” channel on WhatsApp or @TravelGov on X.  When planning travel, carefully read the Travel Advisory and detailed information for your destination, and any recent alerts at travel.state.gov/destination. In Iran, the future of war has definitively come into view. Advanced military technology had already made war precise. Now with high-volume drone warfare in Iran, that precision is mass-produced. My take:

Sleet is inevitable Sunday. Here’s why we don’t want freezing rain. Snow will change to sleet on Sunday — there’s no getting around that. Sleet is made of tiny ice pellets — partially melted snowflakes that refreeze near the ground. They’re slippery, but the good news is sleet tends to bounce off trees and power lines. The bigger concern comes later, when sleet may change to freezing rain — droplets that freeze on contact. Freezing rain is dangerous because it glazes everything, including trees and power lines. If enough accumulates, power outages become a real risk. Think of the difference between sleet and freezing rain as the difference between a sprinkled donut (sleet) and a glazed donut (freezing rain). We expect sleet could transition to freezing rain late Sunday afternoon and evening, especially east and southeast of the Beltway. If icing becomes heavy enough, some outages are possible.

"Sound the Alarm was both a rewarding and humbling experience. Rewarding because we were sure that each alarm installed would help save lives in the event of a fire. Humbling because the people trusted us and welcomed us into their homes." rdcrss.org/3Ume3Bx #EndHomeFires
