@xa15701 @RyLiberty You can't be pro Lincoln and pro US constitution. Only a constitutional amendment could abolish slavery which Lincoln knew day one but didn't start the process until 1864

It doesnt have to be the South. The rebel flag is a big fuck you to federal power. The biggest fuck you we ever gave them. Right now we need this attitude again.

@ConfederateMyth @MRyan35474 @xa15701 @RyLiberty Lincoln had no problem violating the constitution. He called up an army and declared war without congressional approval. After he had already done it congress approved it, but he initially he violated the constitution. Had he really wanted to he would have ended it.

@MRyan35474 @xa15701 @RyLiberty Lincoln proposed 3 amendments to end slavery in 1862. Presidents have no constitutional role in the amendment process. Either the states or Congress needed to start the process

@keenflyer @PreparationHull @RyLiberty Lincoln was against slavery and owning people as property. The north had 18 slaves in 1860, all in NJ which passed gradual abolition in 1804 and abolished chattel slaves in 1846.

Southern Accents
Southern Accents@AccentsSouthern·
Our goal at Southern Accents is to celebrate the South and her history. The four men in this post are the cornerstones in our attempt to do just that. They each represent either a different era or aspect of the Southern heritage, and they are (at least in our minds), perhaps the four most iconic Southerners to ever live. George Washington- The Father of Our Country. Washington was one of the earliest and perhaps still the most shining example of American exceptionalism to have ever lived. From leading our nation to independence, to being our First President, to ultimately turning down more power and simply going home, he accentuates not only what it means to be a Southerner, but also an American. Robert E. Lee- “The Definition of a Gentleman.” “The Marble Man.” These are just a few of the things Lee has been called over the years, and with good reason. Admired the world over not just for his military genius, but for his sterling Christian character, Robert E. Lee is debatably the greatest man not only the South, but this country, has ever produced. Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson- The picture of a Southern Presbyterian. Fiery in battle, but gentle and kind to innocents. When asked how he could stay so insensible during battle he replied “My religious beliefs teach me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death, I do not concern myself with that; but to be always ready, whenever it may overtake me.” Coming from less than an ideal background, Jackson was perhaps the ultimate “self-made” man. Both his faith and tactics on the field are still studied the world over. Davy Crockett- Otherwise known as “King of the Wild Frontier,” Crockett again was a man who came from nothing, but whose accomplishments were nothing short of remarkable. A backwoodsman, a volunteer solider, a politician, a settler, and a man who wouldn’t compromise his principles, even though it cost him dearly politically. These are just a few of the men we admire, and ones we’ve chosen to be the foundation of this brand. At Southern Accents, we don’t just want to celebrate a four year history, or just the cultural things that we all enjoy. We want to celebrate a 400 year history of greatness, and we feel that these men do just that.

@ConfederateMyth @romanaegis @brian_mazz61408 @philthatremains @mattxiv Only around 3-5% of the South owned slaves. There’s a false conflated 20% number, but even that wouldn’t be a large enough population to claim the primary reason was slavery. Less than half the articles of secession mention slavery and those who did mention as 1 of many reasons.

@ConfederateMyth @thatbrandonguy3 @EdConwayNZ @5Scamp @buttflossed @BWLH_ Again, their opposition for the tariffs have been addressed.
Michael@MichaelPierceGa

@ConfederateMyth @EdConwayNZ @thatbrandonguy3 @5Scamp @buttflossed @BWLH_ The morill tariff forced states to increase tariffs on imports by 40%. The goal of the tariff was to incentivize to buy from northern manufacturers rather than foreign ones. Southern ports charged low tariffs and didn’t want to pay a higher price of living.

Most of the fundraising was done by the women, to honor their lost fathers, husbands, sons. They want ALL those war memorials BACK.

Posting this from a music teacher: In music, the term for a slowing tempo is "ritard." The term for a non-harmonic tone that is approached by the same pitch and then resolves upward is "retardation." These terms have been in place for probably 400 years. For the first time in my teaching career, I have an entire classroom full of music theory students who refuse to say either word. Instead, they will only say "the R word." We’re doomed.

@ConfederateMyth @romanaegis @brian_mazz61408 @philthatremains @mattxiv That’s incorrect. Secession was inevitable. Slavery alone wasn’t a big enough issue to leave. South Carolina threatened to leave the union well before Lincoln was president elect. Had the South ended slavery Lincoln would not have ended the war. There were to many differences.

@romanaegis @brian_mazz61408 @philthatremains @mattxiv He also said he would free all of the slaves if it saved the union. He also said he wished all people could be free. Lincoln’s reason for fighting the war was preservation of the union, but he would have had no reason to preserve the union if not for slavery.

He did. He also said he would have saved the union over freeing the slaves. History is never uncomplicated. Because it is the story of people. In general I think the civil war was about slavery. And states rights. And economic disparities. And the industrial revolution. And a bunch of other things.

@ConfederateMyth @EdConwayNZ @thatbrandonguy3 @5Scamp @buttflossed @BWLH_ There’s no reason to stay in a union where two parties want two completely different things and are constantly at each other’s throats. It’s better to leave and form two different nations where both can get what they want. Sadly the U.S. has to force their will on others.
