Harrison Ford: “Humanity is a part of nature, not above it. We need cultural change. We need to extend social justice. We need to respect and elevate the indigenous people that are being marginalized, and in many cases, killed in cold blood. The world you’re stepping into, the world my generation left you, is a real mess”

@MichaelPTKelly Offer a eulogy at the very start, before the entrance song. That way it’s not during the “rite.” Problem solved. And oh yeah, keep it under ten minutes.

A eulogy is *not* part of the Catholic funeral rites. Sometimes priests make exceptions, they should not INHO. They are rarely - very rarely - done well, and people ought to keep stories that mean a lot to them for the wake. Funerals are to pray for the dead.

It is sad to see people actually thinking that Steve Hilton can win the governorship, or Spencer Pratt can win the mayoral election in Los Angeles. They don't understand California politics. Let me tell you two sad facts: neither thing can happen. Joseph Stalin once said words to the effect that the people who vote don't determine elections. The people that count the votes determine elections. But there's more than that in California, and Stalin would have been amazed if he had seen how this state has rigged elections. If everyone in the state voted for Hilton, and everyone in LA voted for Pratt, both would still lose. You think I'm exaggerating? Here's how Democrats have rigged the system. In California, every registered voter, alive or dead, legal or illegal, still in district or not, gets a ballot mailed to them. Every single one. In CA, ballot harvesting is legal. Which means the massive Democrat machine sends operatives out to collect those ballots that were sent to people who aren't there, or senile citizens in old folk's homes, or anywhere else they can, and votes them for Democrats. Then, they dump those ballots into the conveniently placed collection boxes that are all around the state, so the scammers don't have to go very far to drop them off. No need to actually pay for postage. Nope. Just drop them off. Then there's the fact that any ballot received within seven days after an election gets counted. If the Democrats need a little push, they just put those pre-postmarked ballots into the post office box, and they get sent to arrive in time to change the election results. The real problem is that there is no low-level Republican effort to rebuild Republican presence from the bottom up. The CA Republican party is a bunch of elite do-nothings who ask for money and then use that money for 'election events' like dinners, flights around everywhere, and pontifications. They're as big a bunch of grifters as Democrats are. They just have less power. So before you all go "Rah Rah!!! We're going to win!!!" Realize that not only is the deck stacked against Republicans, but the order of the cards in the deck are already determined. The winner of the California gubernatorial race will be whichever Democrat gets on the general election ballot. And the winner of the LA Mayor's race will be Karen Bass. Not because the people voted for them. But because it's the Democrat machine that "counts the votes."

@roddreher I just wonder if so many people, when asked, identify as Catholic, as in “I was raised Catholic” but just never really learned much about their faith. I think that is far less with people who say “I’m Evangelical.”

That Catholic line is horrific. Trads will blame Vatican II, but there's no way to test that hypothesis. But if not the Council, then what? Asking seriously. Notice that neither the world-changing papacy of JP2 nor the horror of the abuse scandals affected the trajectory.

In the 1970s, about 42% of evangelicals reported weekly church attendance. Today? It's 57%. Attendance among Black Protestants has held steady (~38%). Down a little for the mainline (30% --> 27%). Catholic Mass attendance was >50%. Now, it's less than half of that.

@Phantom2Phlyer @MT86083818 My mother was a Republican. As soon as I reported her death to social security, she was removed from the voter rolls. I was sort of surprised because initially was going to ask to have her removed.

@Phantom2Phlyer Yes. And mail in ballots are counted as they arrive. So by Election Day, the Dems know how many harvested ballots they need to collected and submit.

When I left Megyn Kelly’s audience, I was relieved to leave her most sycophantic guests behind, too: Glenn Greenwald, etc. There were some I missed, though. I was introduced to @VDHanson through Megyn. The good news is that I now go right to the source. I watch VDH more than ever by going straight to his @DailySignal monologues. So I guess I can thank her for her former sense and be grateful that not all in her orbit have lost their minds.

VDH Pointing At Megyn Kelly Morphing Into A Zombie: “They’ve Lost Their Minds” “It reminds me of all of these movies like The Invasion of the Body Snatchers or The Last of Us or The Walking Dead... you never really know who’s a zombie until they turn." Victor Davis Hanson, the historian and national speaker, addressed the evolving landscape of American attitudes toward Israel and antisemitism in a recent in today's episode of the Victor Davis Hanson In His Own Words, highlighting what he described as a troubling shift across the political spectrum. Hanson argued that while the Democratic Party and elements of the cultural left had long embraced antisemitic tendencies, certain voices on the right were now joining in, leaving staunch support for Israel primarily in the hands of former President Donald Trump and the MAGA base. Hanson traced the roots of the problem to the political left, noting that during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, and further intensified by diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, “they became anti-semitic.” In contrast, he emphasized, “It was the Republican party that stood up for Israel.”He expressed particular disappointment with figures once aligned with conservative or Republican circles who have recently voiced skepticism toward Israel. Citing Megyn Kelly as an example, Hanson recounted her public reflection: “I think I’ve been mistaken. And I might have been affected too much by people who were pro-Israel. And now I think we’ve been a little bit too hard on Islam and Netanyahu did this and Netanyahu did this.” Hanson grouped her alongside others including Steve Bannon, Candace Owens, and Tucker Carlson. Of Carlson, Hanson observed that the podcaster is “very informed” and “very bright,” yet still questions strong support for Israel despite knowing key historical threats. “He knows that Roth and Johnny said that Israel was a one bomb state. One bomb could kill all the Jews. He knows what Akmanagen Akminad [Ahmadinejad] said he wanted to wipe,” Hanson stated, adding pointedly, “Why would he say it would be helpful if Iran had a bomb?” Hanson noted the absence of forceful pushback within conservative circles. “There’s no party that says, ‘How dare you?’ They’re both in on it, their bases,” he said, referring to growing tolerance for anti-Israel rhetoric on both sides. Hanson contrasted this with the unexpected defenders of Jewish communities amid rising campus harassment and demonization: “The only people now in the United States who will stand up and say, ‘No more. We’re not going to let you demonize a whole people and push them around and rough them up on campus and call them all these names’ is who? It’s Donald Trump and the MAGA base, the irredeemables, the clingers. They’re the people who are still supporting Israel. They still support Jews and evangelicals.” Hanson explicitly rejected other factions as reliable allies. “It is not the Democratic Party. It is not the podcaster right base. It is not the DEI people. It is not the bicoastal leftwing elite teachers unions,” Hanson declared. To illustrate the sudden, widespread nature of the shift, he invoked pop-culture metaphors of infection and transformation. “It reminds me of all of these movies like The Invasion of the Body Snatchers or The Last of Us or The Walking Dead that certain people, you know, get infected and now they’re lost and they’re zombies and the other people, you never really know who’s a zombie until they turn,” he said. “Well, now they’re all turning and they’ve lost their minds.”

@Andreafreedom76 Boomers gonna boom. Completely clueless on how Israel has become a sadistic rogue state. The Israel he grew up supporting no longer exists. In fact those Israelis tried to make it illegal for the present day Israel to exist. They obviously failed

@AdamMantine @politicalmath @GovPressOffice Look up how the percentage of students who start community college and get a degree. Pretty low. It isn’t free for everyone by the way. Only those who qualify. Large numbers sign up for classes and stop going just but spend the loan and grant money.

@Rickisback_ON_X @Kiradavis Right now the goal is just to get a Republican on the ballot. I’ve gotten my sons and their friends to turn in their ballots. But intrwlaoe the Dems cheat in the one party state. They count votes as they come in to know how many more they need unions to harvest.

If Becerra drops out, that's it for Republicans. Dem votes swell to the next in line and Hilton gets locked out by the split Bianco takes. Becerra is tied to all this and its looking bad for him. If Republicans don't unify around ONE candidate we're going to lose the last chance we have to win this state back. Hilton is polling at the top. It has to be Hilton. If you care about our state, you'll vote for Hilton, not because Bianco is a bad man, but because Hilton has the shot. This is not up for debate. We're about to go down because we are who we always complain we are - a divided, foggy electorate.
