Declaring an energy emergency to keep a coal plant open while simultaneously excluding support for affordable, renewable energy sources? Sounds more like propping up fossil fuel companies at the expense of Michiganders' health AND pocketbooks. This coal plant is costing hundreds of millions to operate, and that cost is directly handed down to Michigan ratepayers.

PFAS, or forever chemicals, poison our water, our soil, and our bodies and they don't go away. The EPA set limits to keep us safe, and now this Administration wants to throw that out the window. Michigan communities like Flint, Oscoda, and Grayling know what it means to lose access to safe drinking water. Toxic PFAS contamination harms the health of our communities. We need strong legislation to protect Michiganders from harmful forever chemicals.

A HUGE win for Michigan: The Supreme Court rejected Enbridge's request to move the Line 5 case from state to federal court. AG Nessel fought and won to make it clear that decisions on Line 5 and Michigan's drinking water, economy, and way of life should be made HERE in Michigan, not in the halls of Washington.

CMS Energy, Consumers' parent company, reported over $1 billion in profits in 2025, crediting rate hikes as part of the reason. Today, they were approved for a rate hike of $276.6M. Corporate greed strikes again.

I was honored to speak at the Great Lakes Day Congressional Breakfast about the importance of strong water protections and continued investment in protecting our Great Lakes.

Severe ice storms devastated the community in northern Michigan last year, and these kinds of extreme weather events are becoming more and more frequent as a consequence of climate change. Members of the community gathered last night to urge state and federal leaders to do more to prepare for the impacts of climate change and to address its causes.
