Dennis Ritchie created C in the early 1970s without Google, Stack Overflow, GitHub, or any AI ( Claude, Cursor, Codex) assistant. - No VC funding. - No viral launch. - No TED talk. - Just two engineers at Bell Labs. A terminal. And a problem to solve. He built a language that fit in kilobytes. 50 years later, it runs everything. Linux kernel. Windows. macOS. Every iPhone. Every Android. NASA’s deep space probes. The International Space Station. > Python borrowed from it. > Java borrowed from it. > JavaScript borrowed from it. If you have ever written a single line of code in any language, you did it in Dennis Ritchie’s shadow. He died in 2011. The same week as Steve Jobs. Jobs got the front pages. Ritchie got silence. This Legend deserves to be celebrated.

Just unpacking it here. Ukraine is helping us with Iranian drones, resulting from the war we launched against Iran. And we're easing sanctions on Russia because of the oil market fallout from the war we launched against Iran. And Russia is helping Iran with medical aid and intel, in the war we launched against Iran. And Trump is frustrated with Ukraine because it's still at war with Russia.

#slavaukraini🇺🇦

Game companies get cheated, possibly more than other companies. When I was at id Software, we played Doom over our office network, but we knew we needed a more robust system for head-to-head play. (Bear in mind we did not expect PvP to be big, because no previous game had experienced that.) The rest of this is hearsay - I was not directly involved with any of it, though I was at id while this took place. John Romero told me that they had a guy in California who was writing the multiplayer code. He currently worked for a company there, but planned to move to Texas and be with us when his job finished. His boss knew all about the situation (he said). Well lo and behold when John Carmack was ready to install the multiplayer code, we phoned California and talked to his boss who laughed us to scorn. He said, "X will NEVER leave us. He's a pathological liar, but a good coder." Turned out X hadn't done a lick of work on our multiplayer code! We were two weeks from release with zero multiplayer. He'd been paid something like $20,000 to do nothing. Id Software never pursued the money. I guess we had better things to do and after Doom came out $20k was peanuts for us. I always thirsted for vengeance, myself, but perhaps not getting to work for id Software was enough revenge after we made it big. Anyway John Carmack quick cobbled some code together that worked and we released the game. Unfortunately John's code had a "feature" that made it geometrically fill university networks with packets and basically clog the network when too many people were playing at a time. Which of course everyone was playing Doom deathmatch. So we got banned on universities everywhere within a few weeks. Not too long after that, we managed to get some decent multiplayer and fixed the problem but whoa mama that was a ride.

Tried Meshy AI for 30 minutes and I was "omg ok we are done, I threw away my life.". After a couple of hours it became "this is useless shit with zero actual application". AI just makes easy things trivial and hard things impossible.

All these endless streams of verbal diarrhea exist only because he is allowed to get away with them. Again and again. Not a single objection from anyone in the room, no support for a colleague, no insistence that the president stop spewing insults and malicious demagoguery and actually answer the question that was asked. Everyone has instructions to silently endure this filth and not say a word, otherwise they’ll be thrown out of the “White House press pool” and smeared with even more venom. In the end, there is no value in this endless accommodation. The worth of these empty Q&A sessions in the Oval Office is zero, while the foul-mouthed bully only grows more emboldened in his sense of impunity.

Basta cazzate! I 4 italiani. Peraltro interpretando ad minchiam il testo referendario. 4 su 173!

One of the most disturbing aspects of the people running this country today, like Stephen Miller, is the blatant and deliberate lying. They lie even when they know everyone knows they are lying. There are videos, eyewitness accounts. Sworn affidavits. What explains this? The only rational explanation I can find is what's often observed in totalitarian regimes. Stating obvious lies is a way of asserting power: "I can say whatever I want—what are you going to do about it?" Forcing others to defer to obvious falsehoods, like Trump's insistence that people falsely claim he won the 2020 election, is a display of dominance. We see this dear-leader behavior in North Korea; we saw it in the USSR and Nazi Germany. There's another element, also used by those regimes: lie so often, and make the lies so big, that people become exhausted and believe nothing. Submit. Everything becomes "alternative facts." There is no truth—only strength and power. We saw this with the killing of two U.S. citizens in broad daylight in Minneapolis. They were immediately branded domestic terrorists by authorities, before any reasonable investigation. And with the smallest effort, the lies were there in the open: it was claimed the second victim was rushing ICE agents with a gun. Yet there it is for everyone to see—the man is standing, filming ICE with his phone. Videos and eyewitnesses describe an ICE agent rushing the man and two older women for no apparent reason. He tries to help one of the women stand up and pays with his life. Shot ten times in under five seconds. Three bullets in his back. What makes this unmistakably an exercise of power rather than ordinary political spin is what happened next: multiple news organizations published frame-by-frame video analyses showing the official account was false. And the administration continued to assert the same claims anyway. Ordinary lies get walked back when contradicted by video evidence. Maintaining the lie in the face of video is the power assertion itself.
