Older Canadians seem to be voting LPC to defend Canada they remember working for them. Especially what Trump is threatening. Younger Canadians voting to change Canada what doesn’t work for them. Will next government, regardless of who wins, be able to close this gap? 2/2

Important recent change in Cdn public opinion, desire for federal election. Election to ditch carbon tax? Cdns divided. Election to give federal govt strong mandate to deal with Trump govt? 77% support. This is BEFORE Feb 1st tariff threat. As united as Cdns get on anything.

Canadians will elect a new prime minister this year. The next leader will be dealing with an electorate that feels the direction of the country and the economy are heading in the wrong direction👉 ipsos.com/en/what-worrie…

As it is nearing 1 month since the start of the GST/HST holiday, CFIB checked in with small business owners. - Only 5% report the holiday has increased sales so far. - 70% of small firms report their sales are about the same (remarkably similar to the Nanos finding that 66% of Canadians say the holiday had no impact on their household finances). Even the former finance minister referred to this as a gimmick.

Out with our latest federal politics polling tonight with @GlobalNational. Trudeau's departure doesn't improve electoral prospects for LPC (-1), CPC (+2), NDP (-4). But 81% approve of PMJT's resignation, 51% strongly approve. Trudeau’s Departure Hasn’t Changed Liberal Prospects | Ipsos

@darrellbricker This is the key. It’s not about who pays. It’s about who is going to spend the tax $ and whether people expect a positive outcome. They don’t.

If you’re a government that is perceived to have a problem managing taxpayers money wisely (which applies to this government) increasing taxes - especially when voters feel they are struggling to get by from day to day - comes across as potentially adding to their cost of living burden, even if the change doesn’t directly do that. 2/n

Conversations about capital gains taxes have two elements, political and economic. On economics, I leave it to the economists. On politics, when voters hear increase in CGT many hear “increase in taxes.” Similar to carbon tax, regardless of motive or purpose, it’s just another tax. 1/n
