Straw Man argument @carolinelucas The real argument is if we still are going to use gas, and we will, is it better for the UK (jobs, energy security, carbon emissions) to extract from the North Sea? If yes, do it, if no, then don’t.

I say this as a friend, if energy sources are weather dependent we do not “control” them, just the opposite. Being more ambitious on biomethane production would be controlling our own energy sources.
